Does anyone have any experiences with NZQA assessing ACII or dipPFS qualifications? We are planning to put me down as partner with (hopefully) 10 bonus points for my qualifications. I know I'll have to apply to NZQA for assessment, but as each qualification has to be assessed separately (with a fee for each!) is it really worth having both assessed, or just one (as I can only get 10 points anyway)? If only one is needed, any thoughts on which would be the best one to go for?

Hello Katie
we went with one application because it was cheaper but the points were only 100 then and we didnt need two of us. i suppose it just depends how the points are loking on your rough check. i noticed you put Charted Insurance Institute as your header . I was a membe of the chartered manages institute and got 50 poins from nzqa for the diploma i received from them . if your partner has a diploma from the insurance institute this may help. when i sent my application to nzqa for assesment i put eveything in even my nvq,s it all ads up. Cheers cardy

Hi Cardy
My OH should get 50/60 points for his quals/experience - he's a qualified fabricator/welder and on the Skill Shortage List. We're trying to hedge our bets a bit by including my quals for an extra 10 points. I just don't know whether Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications are recognised by NZQA or not. I understand some Chartered Institutes' quals aren't recognised because they (and mine) are not as a result of full-time study, but achieved over a period of part-time study 'on the job' - you have to have the work experience as well to qualify for the diplomas.
The choice is either to go with a smaller number of points and hope we get selected, pay NZQA to assess my qualifications and definitely get selected (I think we've got 140 if I can get 10), or get a job offer.
In two minds, but as I understand NZQA can take a while to assess UK quals, I might just bit the bullet and pay the money now so we know whether a job offer is crucial at this stage.
Decisions, decisions!!

Hi katie my diploma was only over 12 months and they took my work experience into account which i claimed 10 years for .they actually classed it as equivalent to diploma level 5 in business in nz although it was only a level 4 in england still 50 points but looks better on my cv. There seems to be lots of elding jobs here your husband should be fine getting a job.The paperwork seems to take ages then everything happens at once and before you know it your here. Cheers cardy :cheers

Thanks, Cardy - that's very good to hear. I've filled in most of our EOI - just the NZQA refs to add in. I'll be sure to put a post on, when we get the results! Keep in touch.

Update - I've just submitted a pre-assessment on-line request for my insurance qualifications. Rather than submit two separate forms (and two payments) I used one (ACII) as a supporting qualification for the other (AFPC). The form did say if the first one was not recognised, NZQA would look at the supporting qualification to see if that could be recognised. As I'm only going to go for 10 points in support of my husband's EOI, that seemed like a good enough route.
Hooray!! We're on the road at last!! I know it's a long and winding one, but at least we're on it now.............. :raebanana

We got an email from NZQA today to tell us they won't give us any points for my Advanced Financial Planning Certificate. Oh, well - we're completely reliant on OH now. Fingers crossed his will be ok...........
