Hi everyone,
I was wondering if any of you is a graphic designer or know about the dinamic and opportunities that this kind of job offers in NZ?

I am a graphic designer since 2002, and i have 4 years of experience (i am 26). I would like to know, how hard it is to find a job in this area, what would be a regular salary for someone with my age/experience. Does the employers ask for portfolio? which is the best way to show it? (digital or printed).

Does it take too much time to find a job like this? There is a high demand of it? And how good are the opportunities outside Auckland to work in this area? Is it too difficult for an immigrant to get a job like this?

Thank for all your answers, any information would help... and if there is no graphic designer here, do you know someone who i can contact whit to INTERROGATE? jijijij

Hugs!!

Hi Kali

I work in Graphic Design too and have been doing so for a few years.
I have other skills and have been looking for employment in other areas too.

I would say there seems to be a lack of 'need' for Graphic designers. I have been doing Job searches for a while now and have only managed to send off about 7-10 times for Graphic designer positions.

Most have wanted to see some expamples of work and they usually require you to send them over email, however pretty much all of them have said it is far easier for them to see you in person and go through your portfolio with you, so really you need to be in NZ looking for these roles. I have only done searches in the Auckland area as this is where my new house is.

There is a website you can register to that offers employment in all creative industries and they have a NZ section. The agency name is Aquent and the website is www.aquent.com

I am arriving in NZ next month and will continue my search for employment in the Graphic design field, good luck in your search too!

I hope I helped slightly!
