Any tri band or quad band phone will do Koen, I think they use the standard 1.8/1.9 GHz for E/GSM and 3G. Not sure if the old 900MHz service is still active there, should imagine it is.

From my initial enquiries, it seems there are two mobile networks - Telecom and Vodafone. Telecom use CDMA phones, something we don;t have in the UK yet - these phones have the SIM cards vuilt in to them, so you cannot just buy a Telecom SIM to place inyour UK Mobile.
We picked up a couple of Vodafone SIMS that worked in our Nokia 6310ia (Unlocked) - we have started on Pay as you Go just in case I get a phone from work - you are tied to at least a 12 month contract if you go on a talk plan with Vodafone.

Yea your phone has to be unlocked! If anyone on here needs a Nokia unlocked I can do it for free with a code you type into your phone. PM me for more details
Oh - and Voda sims cost $35 each. If I remeber correctly they come with $20 airtime (you get $10 free and $10 if you register online)

Can you use a mobile locked to Vodafone in UK with an Vodafone NZ sim card ?
Why do mobile phones have to be so complicated

Highly doubt it. Unlocking a phone is fairly common. In NZ it's pretty simple - if you have a GSM from overseas you have ONE option: Vodafone. If you go monthly, you have TWO options: Telecom and Vodafone.
In the UK and US/Canada you have 5 or 6 providers to choose from. Not so here.
A CDMA phone from the US + Canada won't work here. But an old dual-band from the UK will. I brought my 5 year old Orange UK (unlocked) phone and it still works.

VODAPHONE or TELECOM dominate the market out here and another thing worth noting, especially if u like your phones, in my opinion is that the phones are much less Gucci in comparison to the UK. I have a PDA and the cost to source the equivalent out her is unreal - plus most contracts out here are a minimum of 24 months unlike the UKs 12 - 18 month contracts. Lesson learnt if u have a TRI band phone and its pretty modern - bring it!
