Thank you

PS I'm scared to drive on the wrong side of the street :D

Yep, cars are all normal :nice1 - after years of avoiding auto's (cos I like to "drive") I'm loving our auto!! Next stop cruise control :D

If you drive on the left as you will in NZ the pedals will go in this order;

left pedal - nearest the central console - clutch (if it is not automatic) worked by your left foot

middle pedal - brake- worked by any foot you fancy

right pedal - the only one the kiwis know- accelorator - worked by your right foot.

I drove a weird car back from the garage tonight though, automatic but I still had to move the gear stick. Can't remember the name of that, is it tiptronic?

Hope that makes sense.

Took me so long to type that, Moorf had answered. :D

What???????

Please tell me this is a belated April fool - an auto car with a gear stick?

I know people used to think I was joking about a car with two gear sticks (Disco 4x4) but how the hell do you drive an auto with gears?

Badly, especially if you think that the large number 1 on the dash display corresponds to the radio station you are listening to.:raebanana

Seriously Emily, it looks like an auto box but you just have to nudge the gearstick gently to move up a gear (or down). Of course it took a bit of engine screaming round the CBD to figure that out, oops. :o

What happened to autos that just went P, R, N, D, D1, S? :wah Or am I old now?

I've noticed that the majority of used cars for sale on places like TradeMe seem to be automatic - is there a reason why they're so popular in NZ? I like to 'drive' too!

Debs, I remember those too, and they were sort of autos, with manual shift in case you needed it on hills etc.

I think auto's are nice, but make for lazy driving and higher fuel consumption, but, whereas manual gearboxes in the UK traffic make you lop sided with huge muscular left legs and arms due to the constant gear changes, wouldn't imagine it to be such a problem in NZ :laugh

Thanks Steve, I just found the cause of my weight problem. ;)

Hmmm - that's the cause, I wondered why I was struggling too! :laugh

hi,
Just a quickie. The only inconvenience i found is that the stalks on the steering column are on the opposite side.... ie wipers on the left and indicators on the right. took a bit of getting used to.

I've driven one of those tiptronic cars. I liked it for about half an hour then just put it into Automatic. It means you have control over when the car changes up a gear, by nudging the gear stick (although it will come down the gears automatically).
