Hi Everyone, Just a quick question that I hope someone on here can help me with. We shipped all of our things from the UK in a container with Burke Bro's (Wolverhampton) its all arrived ok but now customs in NZ want to unpack and look through every box (147 of them!) at our expense! This is due to the fact that the itenery doesn't match what is in the boxes. We had all the boxes packed by Burke Bro's - we did none of the work. Just wondered if this has happened to anyone else and if there is anything we can do. We took out the all singing all dancing insurance with Burke aswell.

Regards

How do they know the inventory doesn't match the contents if they haven't looked already? Have they sent the wrong inventory?

Get straight on to Burkes in the UK if your agent here can't sort it.

Good luck

They opened about 10 or so boxes that they wanted to check. Have Rung Burke in the UK just now. The 10 boxes they opened didn't match what was on the sheet so now they want to open them all and check them. We have brought a house and we are hoping to moving in on the 30th but I can't see that happening now as we are in furnished rented accomodation and we need our things to moving into the new house (i.e beds!!). Just more stress to add to it all!!

What did Burke's say when you called them?

If Burkes didnt do thier job properly and couldnt even write the correct thing on the boxes - surely they should pay the fees. If the refuse - i would think you have a legitimate reason to take them court dont you?

I do hope this gets sorted - its not the thing you need right now when starting your new life.

Hopefully Burkes will step and and take responsibility for thier incompetence. If not - thats another company to add to the "not with a bargepole" list.

Yea. I have rung then and had a word. They seemed very helpful and they are dealing with it all. It's Just a shame that they can't get it right first time (if it is there fault!) Might mean we have to rent for longer as we have no things to move into the house we have paid for!

That's terrible, Craig. I hope they sort it out - it definitely shouldn't be at your expense. That reminds me, our 'balance' shipment was due into Auckland on 28 May and we've heard nothing nearly a month later - I'm pretty sure it can't take that long to get to Christchurch. I'm going to hassle them now!!

Hope you manage to move in in time.

Kate
