Hello Everyone!

Although I have been following the website for a couple of months this is my first post. (Mainly as all my other questions have been answered by others already! :cheers )

So I shall just give a quick background on where we are at!

My girlfriend and I have been living together for almost 2 years and have been together for almost 3 and we've decided to move out to NZ, we have done all the points etc and get a total of 100 points without jobs for our PR.

I am a network/voice engineer and Suze is a senior internal recruitment consultant.

We are heading out on a job hunting mission next week, after some positive feedback from agency's etc, to secure those extra point and hopefully guarentee us visas.

I am trying to do some contingency planning, to cover all our bases and the few questions I have come up against are these:

1. I am confident my IT qualifications and experience will mean I can get a skilled migrant visa, but could Suze?

I have done a search and found this job code/description on the NZ immigration website:

33511 Employment Agency Consultant

Now technically she won't be working for an agency, but she will be doing the same job just in-house. Would this be deemed as the same thing?

I only ask as it would seem she has a couple of really good interviews lined up and I have an excellent contract opportunity.

If it qualifies we double our chance of going as only one of us has to get a job, they can become the principal applicant and we can get out there, which I'm sure will make getting a job for the other one easier.

Fortunately both companies are on the accredited list so we could get temp work Visas, and apply when we are out in NZ for PR, but I have read others have found this hard work when they are in New Zealand? Is this right in general?

2. If neither of us gets jobs, should we submit our EOI anyway with 100 point, has anyone been selected recently with 100 points, or is it a waste of time effort and money?

I think that will do for the time being, so many other things I keep thinking of everyday our trip gets closer!

Anyway if anyone can give any advice on whether Suze would qualify that would be great. I'm going to try and get to NZ House during my lunch break. Is it the sort of thing they are happy to answer when just wander in off the street?

another question...!!! :no

Thanks

Stram

I can't answer all your questions but I'm sure someone else will be able to help with the others.

As far as I know Suze's job is not classed as skilled employment. It appears in Major Group 3 and unfortunately there are only a selection of jobs within this group that qualify. I know this because my job, Senior Travel Consultant, also appears in this group and is not classed as skilled employment. This irks me a little as my job does appear on the Immediate Skills Shortage List, fine for a 2 yr work visa but not for PR. Skilled on the one hand but not on the other! One way she could get round it it is by getting a management role in recruitment and then she could claim points under one of the management roles in Major Group 1.

Here's the link that shows you which jobs are classed as skilled employment.

Hope this helps.

Informative post Toto. I'm afraid I can't help with the question Stramec, but I do know that a few people on the forum are working in recruitment, although with agents, rather than internally. I am in touvch with one emigree from UK who does this (not a forumite though), so perhaps Suze could consider landing a job in the field? Yjere's tons of agencies there (as I'm sure you know) and a few direct enquiries might give you/Suze some food for thoguht?
Good luck, anyway,
Gil

Hi Sue

Thanks for that info, it does all seem to clear it up, which is a bit of a blow as it is one avenue we won't be able to go down...looks like it is down to me then!!! :o

Thanks Gil, yes we have thought about Suze going for an ageny role, mainly as there are more of them available and a couple of the big agencies are on the accredited list so will be easier to get a work visa.

She used work in external agencies but just prefers being in-house, so wants to concentrate on that.

But certainly if push comes to shove.....

p.s What house are you selling?... I daresay it is on another post so I'll have a look.
