There is a group of youngsters at the traffic light junction waiting for cars to stop and approach them to clean their windscreens. I find the whole situation hazardous and annoying. Once my car was standing at the junction, one guy came (without asking permission) and start wiping my windscreen. Instead of cleaning it, the whole windscreen is covered with soap :( and I have to drive away because the traffic light has turned green. I find out from the kiwis and the police that it is illegal. But these people are still doing it in broad day light.

Blimey Ivy, they were doing that in Essex 20 years ago (although I suspect it wasn't the same youngsters :D). For the most part they were fairly courteous and some even washed your windscreen if you had no money. I did hear of other areas though where people kicked your car or bent your wipers if you didn't stump up.
In the end I took to having a bag of sweets in the car and gave them a sweet instead of money!
Many people were a bit confused as their cars had already been fitted with new, innovative devices called "windscreen wipers" and "jet washers" and they couldn't quite comprehend the necessity of these traffic light urchins.

Yip we had the same thing in South Africa - in abundance :D I'm not so bothered by the whole thing - at least they aren't begging on the streets for sweets or money I suppose :laugh

Yep they were doing it in Surrey too, years ago.
In fact my mate had the cleanest windscreen for miles because the girl at the Wallington lights had the skimpiest shorts, crop top and no bra on. He'd slow down praying for the lights to turn red. :laugh
Just shake your head and mouth 'No' at them Ivy, or something similar thats easy to lip read. ;)

She'd practically have to stand on the bonnet to clean a Multipla windscreen.
Less strain on your heart if you take it through a car wash. :laugh:laugh:laugh

hmm... if somehow those guys look dangerous (a bit drunk perhaps?) or simply they just look 'scary'. How much should we 'pay'?
you know... if we pay less they might kick our car or something and of course I don't want to pay too much (unless girls with skimpy shorts, crop tops and no bras) :p

When I go to buy petrol, they fill the car for you, and then wash your window too.
They don’t expect (or ever get) a tip, its all part of the service. :nice1

True, last year my windscreen was washed by someone with NO crop top, NO bra, totally topless, and just England football shorts- then he squeegeed it dry with his beer belly!!!
