Hi Everyone

We will submit our ITA in a couple weeks' time, granted the meds go okay :uhoh

Can anyone recommend an IT recruiter, other than Duncan&Ryan? We desperately need a job offer, and will be in NZ in Oct, and although we've applied for hundreds of jobs, everybody says that we need to be in NZ.

Any advice and contacts would be much appreciated! :clap

Hi Nanny

1.5 years experience in helpdesk/system support.

There are tons of jobs available, and people are really nice about it, but all of them want us to be in NZ already (webcam interviews don't seem to be an option :no ), and obviously we'd love to get it sorted before we arrive in Oct! :clap

Any advice on who we can approach?

Does your company in the UK have an NZ office ? If so that may be one avenue to try.

Unfortunately I think it's a case of you really being here. Employers are getting more and more reluctant to take overseas people from just a web cam interview, they often offer less money as well.

IT skills in Wellington are in high demand so I don't think you'll have too much of a problem finding work once here. Probably better to budget, if you can, up to three months without work. I know it's worrying to come over without a firm job offer in hand, we took the chance with a job offer just didn't know the starting date, luckily it turned out to be a month after we arrived.

If you haven't tried already try Seek, once here update your details straight away and you'll probably find a lot of agencies calling for you to get work.

Hi High :D

There certainly ARE cases of people being offered work before leaving theUK BUT as has been said already it is very hard - particularly if you are not in a skilled shortage area.

Hubby has ben told the same (and he IS in a shortage area) so we are upping sticks and going in August and looking once he gets there.

I wish you luck but be prepared for it not happening before oyu get there.

Thanks Nanny and Sizzlingbadger :D

We really appreciate the help! We were just hoping to get a job offer so that our ITA will get done before we fly in October. :exit

Do either of you know whether it's okay to fly out before the ITA has been processed?

Hubby has got some job interviews lined up a few days after we arrive, so we really need to go...

Hi,

My husband works in Insurance and has been sending his C.V. for every single company/recruitment in the country since we decided to relocate, about 3 months ago. He had loads of interviews via phone and web cam, but no job offer.
We got here 4 weeks ago and since then he had 4 offers!!!!! So I think the best way of getting a job, is being here!

Good luck
:nice1

Thanks Millsy-K!

That gives us a lot of hope! :raebanana

Did you go after getting PR/WTR or before?

We're just worried that our ITA might still be in the UK queue by the time we fly. :(

High,

We didn't want to wait for the ITA for the same reason, so we came before that and only now, with job offer in hand, we applied for the WTR.We will apply for the PR once the WTR has being issued (quicker that way)!

When are you planning to fly out?Whereabout in NZ will you be based?

:)

Hiya!

We've bought our tickets and will be flying 26 Oct!!!! :raebanana :raebanana :raebanana

At the moment we're looking at Wellington, as it seems to be best for IT, but we'll happily start out ANYWHERE as long as we get a job! ;)

How long have you been in NZ?

Get out to NZ, Get a job and the ITA becomes almost irrelevant.

Hi Arc

That's great news! :clap

Sorry, but why?

I mean, I'm really happy that it won't matter then - that takes a great load of stress off my shoulders (at the rate I'm going I'll probably burst a vein from worrying about it!) :o

But I don't understand why it'll just fade away into insignificance? It seems too all-powerful at the moment! :o Unconquerable!

Well

It appears to me that once you have a job offer in NZ the rest of the selection process becomes almost secondary. The NZIS people are a lot more relaxed about stuff it appears.

Not that I've any great experience - I did it the normal route of EOI, ITA, PR and then found a job.

Just being on the outside looking in sometimes allows you to observe stuff from a distance.................

So just go for it !

cheers

Arc :)

High,

We've been here for 4 weeks today and it feels great! We are based in Auckland, which is a bit far away from Wellington, but let's keep in touch and meet up once you are here,ok?

Hi High,
I am also looking for a job in the IT industry and already had phone interviews. I am pretty sure, that Auckland is good for IT jobs as well: There are probably more vacant positions, but also more applicants. Please have a look at the itManiacs website, there are helpdesk positions. Even better: give them a call or mail them, as soon, as you have fixed your travel plan to NZ.
They will only take you for serious, if you show up for an interview – like most other recruiters.
