Me too Marie - we've been freezing our wotsits off here in Pukekohe!

My Mum and Dad are due to arrive on Thursday for a visit and I've told them to make sure they packed their thermal underwear!!! Coming from the hot and sunny UK they'll really feel the difference.

Role on Summer eh.......

Nice and warm here though Marie - phew!! Sitting in my vest and shorts, been on the beach today, 31 degrees, I kid you not!

OK, admit it, who took the weather with them??

Im glad its not normal.

I actually have to look forward to a hard frost in the morning - because it means its going to be a cloudless day. Not only is it stunningly beautiful - but it means my house gets warm as well.

I was beginning to think it only felt this cold because we had acclimatised to NZ weather.

But on the plus side its lovely today, and my washing is out on the deck.

Hey, its summer soon, right?

I guess we're in the granny brigade too :o - all we're missing is a tartan throw....

Diny
3rd July 2006, 03:38 PM
A tartan throw you say? Does a fleece throw put me in the 'beyond help' category?

I hope not because we have 2 on our bed... :uhoh and a dog when it's REALLY cold :D - looks like we're in for more snow tonight - Veronica must be working her socks off at the ski shop!!

Gosh, you lilly livered lot - I don't have an electric blanket or a hot water bottle - I even have to stick my feet out of the bed because they get too hot at night (they must make us tough in Yorkshire!!).

Today's been beautiful - we were down on the beach in Sumner (along with half of the school by the looks of it - didn't manage to get home for 3 hours!). I've also got 3 loads of washing dry on the line. Make the most of it - tomorrow looks terrible, but Thursday and Friday should be nice too! On a nice winter's day, you do have to keep reminding yourself that this really is the middle of winter. Everyone I bumped into on the beach today said that this is what winter's days are usually like here - we've just had a bit of bad luck this year!

:D "lilly livered lot...." something my gran used to say! Where on earth does it come from?!!

Aydon - what temps are you getting down there - even tho we're just 50km in from Chch we're hitting -2 to -4 - if you're inland you too may be getting it colder than the average Chch resident! Just noticed you're in the same "district" as us - Selwyn.

Aydon
3rd July 2006, 06:30 PM
No idea what the temps are - other than "bloody cold" :) Don't know where Waddington is is relation to Motukarara - but we'll be moving to Lincoln soon- doubt there'll be much difference though.

Ohhhh I know... and more snow on the way tonight too - I need another dog... :D

Aydon - you're right down the bottom and we're up by Sheffield.... about 90km - 100km? Tai Tapu (the winery) took us about an hour....

yep you are right. we are working our socks off here in the ski shop, long may it last, and we've got a throw and a hottie. very noticable that the supply of hot water bottles at the hostel has dwindled, the b****rs have been nicking them.

I had to look lilly livered up ;) I remember my Nan saying it too.

I found this
Lilies are usually white, liver is full of blood and should be dark red/brown. to be "lily-livered" is to be lacking in full-bloodedness, sangfroid or other attribute based upon being bloody, bold and absolute. doubtless The Bard made reference to it.

He's lily livered is a saying used to describe a coward or weakling. The ancient Greeks used to sacrifice an animal before battle. The liver was regarded as a prime omen; if red then all was fine but if pale then this signified bad tidings. By extension the liver of a coward was thought to be pale and lily livered was one of the ways of describing this. Others were "white livered" and "pigeon livered".

Pigeon livered..................

Been a fine sunny day this side of Welly. Nice enough to sit outside with coffee. Open sunroof temperature.

Just been reading about you lot woth your electric blankets and hot water bottles made we wonder................

can you bring wheat bags over in the container? You know the ones you bung in the nicrowave to warm up?? Just wondered cos they are wheat filled is this against MAF regulations???

Moorf
4th July 2006, 10:59 AM
Not sure if it's "allowed" but mine came in on the container and no probs - mind you, it wasn't on the inventory either as I forgot we had it... they sell them all over the place here so it's not like you can't buy another....

jubjub

Probably officially not, but if its inside something else..... everyone seems to have them over here anyway.
