Hi everyone,

Has anyone used a lease vehicle in NZ as opposed to buying one? We are hoping to Lease a Honda Civic or similar for 6 months when we first get over to Tauranga, can anyone offer any advice or put me in the right direction of useful websites/lease companies in Auckland or Tauranga?

Hi, we did hire a Toyota Corolla from a car rental compay About New Zealand when we were in NZ for a 3 month holiday (1999) & again for a 1.5 month holiday (2003).

We spent NZ$2300 for 90 days rental, which worked out to less than NZ$26 per day. But they expanded their operation & increased the rate to about NZ$42 per day when we returned again in 2003.

We know that there are some rental company that are still as low as NZ$25 per day but the condition for the car may be much older.

Imho, if you need the car for 6 months, it may be more cost effective to buy a second hand car that has a sell-back policy. Else, just get a second hand car & try to resell in the open market when you no longer need it. I believe it will cost less than rental, although it may require more documentation & processes.
