Hopefully this isnt a problem for you - but the trains arent running tonight becasue of flooding. Is your hubby at work?
Apparently trains are going to Upper Hutt and then buses are getting people over the hill.
If anyone is working in Welly - they need to head back over the hill Asap, or stay in town tonight.
Im not even sure if my OH can get from the Carterton to home tonight. We are practically cut off out here.

Thanks for that ... just spoken to OH he's going to see if he can find out more. If not it sounds like a night in the Intercontinental :roll

Also - eople should be aware that there is a landslip at Horokiwi which is causing 1.5 hr delays in driving out.
Trains to the Hutt are still fine for the monet - but people should check NOW to work out if they can get home ok.
Hugs to everyone

Well it has finally stopped raining here - so hopefully the water will start draining away.
If I was religious - id be paying for no rain tonight!
I dunno - drought in summer - floods in Winter!
But wouldnt live anywhere else.

The SH2 Horokiwi landslip is still on the road and still slipping. It was supposed to be cleared by mid afternoon and now they are working overnight on it. :( Only one lane open both ways and northbound is running on the southbound lane.
The radio has broadcast people who are stuck in it and they have been sitting there for 90 mins +. I went up to Titahi Bay and Tawa this morning and the queue south on SH1 to join 2, went back past J'ville. :no I came back over Haywards which was wet but free from slips.
When I went to the garage this morning we had a river running past it.
Hope everyone gets home safe and well (or has a good night in the Intercontinental)
Hugs

Luckily just spoken to the OH, trains are now running fine to Featherston but they're bussing people on from there. Just going to see how long it takes him, hopefully they're back running on time :D
Hope everyone gets to where they're going, sounds pretty bad at the moment for everyone. Better get the beer in the fridge for when the OH gets home, he'll need it :cheers

Alan has just made it home.
He left Welly at 1pm - its now 5.
The car is a bit "damp" as water was coming over the bonnet at one point. Not sure he needed to tell me that bit.

Silly me. Forgot to mention. :D
DH went on the motorbike as the ferry was cancelled. When he got to work he had wet bits where he didn't know he had bits, even with full waterproofs on.
He'll need more than a beer to warm him up after the return journey, more like a pint of brandy.
I watched the ferry trying to dock last night and it was tipping and lurching all over the place. He said he left his seat vertically at one point.

Only from Matarawa.
The Bus got as far as Carterton - but the driver wouldnt go down (the lovely named) Swamp Road to Matarawa station as it was flooded. In a bus! (Wimp :uhoh ) So a friend in Masterton (with a Big 4wd) got Alan to the car at the station, then followed him part way back here.
Apparently it was fine till the long straight stretch after Parkvale Mushrooms. A guy in a saloon wasnt going to try it - but Alan gave it a go. It was 6 inches in most places - but got to a foot at one point. He says he wouldnt do it again.
Had an email of one of the neighbours still in town asking what is open. I think it may tale one of the others to go out with a 4wd to get them home tonight.
It seems our friend may have been taking photos of Alan going though a few puddles - so if I can ever work out how to - I could try posting them - could be funny.

Yes they cancelled all Interislander sailings today because of the 7 metre swells.
1100 people stuck in the wrong place means they'll have to shift them tomorrow, if it's better weather. :( Forecast isn't good though.
OH has just ridden the bike home :uhoh not a pretty site on arrival and I've just wrung out his gloves and kit. He went straight for the rum.:cheers
Least he didn't have to drive through Avalon's & Sizz's area, its sounds treacherous even in a car.

Just seen the pics on the news of the river down at Martinborough ... lets just say I'm glad I'm not living near it at the moment :uhoh Never seen the rivers so high around here, here's hoping that we don't lose a bridge to the water as they did a few years back.
Fingers crossed for a long, hot summer right now :D

No hope of staying dry at the moment, it's still raining :roll
Took a drive out today, Martinborough looks pretty bad although it's accessible at the moment probably not for much longer.
Tried to get access to a friends place at Kahutara, roads closed due to flooding, just hoping their house is okay.
Our normally serene river at the end of our road is now a raging torrent, at least we're up high here so should be okay

Well - we managed to get into Masterton today and back. The rumahanga (?) river is a raging torrent and quite something to see, but most of teh surface flooding is down or gone.
Still raining but slower - so its able to drain.

Hi,
It sounds as if you are having very English weather there at the mo, hope you are all safe and drying out just a bit. Is this normal, , most years, or just some freak weather you are having? Do you get a lot of land slides on the roads in your region, I've hear of them before.

Unfortunately not normal weather at all. The Wairarapa had around 240 mm of rain fall from Tuesday night till Thursday morning, this is the worst, the experts say, for about 100 years. Also a lot of kiwis are saying that this is definitely the coldest and wettest winter they've had that they can remember.
I've heard from the MIL about the freak weather the UK has had as well, I think the world's weather must be going mad.
Not a lot of landslips, the worst was on Highway 2 near Petone exit, that held up traffic for a while. A few over the Rimutaka hill but nothing to major. Wanganui to Waverley seemed to have quite a few bad ones since it started raining up there
Just holding out now for a very long hot summer and a water shortage :D

Yeah - we are supposed to have long hot summers (check) and short cold winters (cold not quite a check yet).
We have a slide not far from here getting worse, and a tree down. Mind you - on our road - the council did some work (which as make a complete mess of the road) which involed cutting back some of the grass covered land at the side of the road. Strangly enough - the bank is now sliiping INTO the road. Im sure a 5yr old could have told them that would happen.
