Hi

We have a consultant who was recommended by Duncan & Ryan employment agency. Although we have 125 points due to qualifications and exp in employment shortage area IT, he has advised that we get jobs first before submitting our EOI. Is this normal, or should we just submit our EOI and take the plunge? He is an ex NZ emmigrations officer who has gone private.

We are coming over for 5 weeks just to get a job in IT for my OH, then come back and pack up the house and pets etc. or I may come back on my own and sort things out if they want him to start. Are we doing the right thing?

did he say why you need to have a job first? in my case we already submitted our EOI without any job offer and we only have 110 points and luckily our EOI is selected.

Hi angela, No this isnt normal
Our EOI was selected in june with no job offer and we only had 115 points i think its gone to 12o now as the immediate skill shortage list has changed but its still less than yours,Our friends got PR last year with115 points and no job offer so i wouldnt take any notice of this consultant and go round the agencies when you get out there, dont let it deter you from putting in your EOI

I'd put it in and search for a job as well, you can always add the job on at a later stage!

Go on take the plunge! :yes

Yup I'd put it in as it only makes a difference to how the application is processed. If you get a job offer whilst still in the ITA process your application will be given priority anyway so it's better to get the ball rolling as you have enough points to be selected. :yes

Have you considered applying for residence yourself instead of using the consultant? It is really quite straightforward just longwinded. If you have already filled in your own EOI then thats as hard as it gets because the next stage once selected is ITA which is exactly the same form as the EOI but asking for proof attatched to each section (qualification certs, birth certs, passports, police checks, medicals etc).

It is true that Immigration operate 2 streams, a priority stream for applicants with job offers, and another for those without, but you still have enough points to apply, it just may be a longer wait than higher scoring applicants. I'd go for it personally,

Not sure how to add links to threads on here but if you do a search the amswers are all on this forum (i got all my advice on here and got my PR in Feb)

Thanks for all your encoragment and advice.
Reason we are using a consultant I think initially because my OH had a telelphone interview with a client of Duncan & Ryan they wanted it all to go through quickly.

But now its not so important except I do not know how we would complete some of the paper work/tasks as we do not get post here, not to our door and it takes 6 weeks extra from anywhere, plus some goes missing, da Greeks in the UK post office.http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=80229#
Icon Rolleyes He has already asked for copies of everything to back up our points like prev job ref, certificates etc, and we have emailed all those and taking hc across in Aug. I think he advises that we can add a job to it later, but its better to put it in with a job offer, whilst we are out there for 5 weeks. Also you have to pay to submit the EOI and its hard work transfering money here and no NZ house to pop a cheque into. The guy said he understood and does not want paying himself until we are in NZ, ex UK guy. I would just like him to put the EOI in and then when we are over it might have alrady been pulled out. Or maybe I am just getting impatient for news, we need to sell the house first and its been on the market for 1 year! We have dropped its price several times 10k at a time! Sorry digressing.

I think listening to you all I will email him today and ask him to either submit it or give me written reasons for not and see what reply I get from him. I think he will say that having worked in immigrations its the best way, being quickest. He did say getting your EOI pulled was not a guarantee, I will let you know. I think basically I want to be there now, we really have gotten to hate where we are! We have a forum here but I will not even write in on tropics as people are so rude. Its lovely to get to read all your and get to know you lot through it. You are all so polite to each other and funny.
