Dear All,
Our wonderful immigration officer Katie Knowles (get on your knees and thank God if you get her!), has returned our paperwork and visas just 6 days after we sent the straggling police reports in! She was marvellous and I phoned to thank her today.
We have flights booked business class with Eva air (basically a trumped up super-traveller class), with a day stop over in Taipei to break up the monotony. 20 milligrams of Valium on the plane and I'll wake up with no muscle aches and feeling fresh as a daisy in Taipei ready to get me some cat-burgers! Valium.. the only way to fly! First class travel even when you're in cattle class! Arrival Auckland on the 24th.. yeah baby!!!
We'll buy a car in Auckland from one of these places that takes you from your hotel to the showroom and drive down to Napier that day (all being well). I bought my GPS here and extra New Zealand maps for it!
Also I had to write permanent residence visas rather thn abbreviate to PR, as in medical terms PR means sticking a finger where the sun doesn't shine!
Thanks for the help and I'll keep you posted.

So true !!!! My hubby works in Egypt (where those wonderful prescription drugs can be purchased over the counter) and he's aquired a good stash of Diazapam for us.
I went home for a holiday recently and slept 11 hours straight between Melbourne and Dubai and woke feeling just great !!!!
I'd never travel without them.
(Should I be telling this to a man of medicine?)
Congrats on the 'PR' ............(ouch).

Oh, and we've been granted PR already, so I sincerely hope that its a residency thing!:uhoh

Thanks guys! Oh and by the way here is the request for the dancing banana- :raebanana
The website for the car dealer was www.genuinevehicleimports.co.nz
We haven't got any wellies. We may both have to get wet feet as I need to sacrifice some weight to take my guitar. The other two will come with relatives and friends.
By the way, what did people do about mobile phones there? Did they take them and cancel the contract whilst they were out there, or do without initially? Hard to remember the days when mobiles were a luxury item. I'm going to get mine unlocked as both are PDA's too and too useful for words (when they flipping well work)!
Here is another dancing banana for good measure :raebanana
Cheers,

Valium..... Where can I get me some of those?
Typical GP keeping all the good drugs to yourself!
Spoke to my GP about the flight and two kids, (not that I would suggest wasting Valium on children) and she suggested I give my 4yr old Piriton before the flight. Luckly tried it out last week when he had bad hayfever and he was as high as a kite. Won't be spending 26 hr on a plane with him like that!
KJ congratulations on your visa, (yep you've spoilt 'PR' for all of us now.) Give us some feed back on EVA as we intend to fly out with them early Sept.

I was told to try 'phenergan' which is an antihistame and also reduces vomiting, therefore is used as a travel sickness medicine. Not sure if they will sell it over the counter at a chemist if you say its for travel sickness or not?? Maybe worth popping into a chemist and asking?? Have also been told that Boots travel sickness stuff for kids is good at 'knocking' them out too!
maybe our resident doc 'Gumbygreeneye' can give some ideas!

Dear All,
Seems like we're going the way of "Prozac Nation" taking all this valium to New Zealand.. is this why the Kiwis are so chilled out?
Anyway after a long a difficult Friday afternoon clinic I came home and saw all your lovely mails and felt how nice it was to talk to people who know exactly what you mean when you talk about emigrating.
And tonight, our two best friends gave us presents and took us out for the last time to one of our favourite restaurant. Quite an emotional few moments. I urge all of you if you can to spend as much time with your friend and family in the last couple of weeks.
I think piriton and phenergan are two reasonable choices. Have to be a bit careful here when advising on the net so please discuss with your doctor or chemist. I'm sure you understand!!!
Anyway I hope everybody makes the most of their PR's when they get them ;)
Will definitely keep you posted on Eva Air.
Cheers,
KJ
