Hi everyone
were going to a midwinters Xmas party tonight . Does it sound weird to anyone else? I had never heard of it till we came here. But i suppose its too hot too eat xmas dinner and pud in december here so what the heck. Anyway just to get back to what i was going to say. We cant believe how freindly everyone is here ,we have more social life than we did in Uk and i have never visited so many peoples houses for get togethers as i have here. Brits and Kiwis all excellent . When we first arrived i wasnt very comfortable ,although i didnt tell the wife and kids, and thought we might not last long before heading back to uk but its changed so much over the 4 months we have been here. the only thing i dont like is my job but i,m going for a 2nd interview for a new one on sunday so fingers crossed then everything will be perfect then just need to buy a house to feel totally settled, renting just isnt the same. I wonder what the kiwis will make of it if i turn up in my santa suit tonight and wander around the young ladies saying HO HO HO !! Sit on my knee and i,ll give you a present!! probably not a good idea i might get deported. Anyway mery midwinters xmas everyone Kiwi Cardy

Go on - dare you to do the HO HO HO thingy !!!

As for a midwinter Xmas ......... the idea of suffering another Christmas over and above the December one fills me with dread.

I'm known around this forum for my hatred of the 'festive season'.

But you have a good time, and let us know how the HO HO HO goes.

I started a thread about this a month ago or so to see if anyone was doing one! We went to one last weekend and had a really good time - all the fun without all the hassle! Felt a bit rough on Sunday, but it was worth it. And Diny, nobody can hate christmas as much as I can!!! I'd be quite happy for that to be it now and the real christmas can be cancelled.

Actually Kate - maybe if we just have a 'pretend' Christmas in June/July and then totally forget the one in December I'd start to be abit more lenient in my yuletide opinions.

We've done a mid winter christmas each year we have been here, love it, really a great opportunity to have friends round and a good meal. But then Pete and I are gregerious (reasonably) friendly people.

the original christmas celebration was an adaption by christianity of a mid winter feast to welcome the days getting shorter and the return of the sun, and I feel the same about that in the southern hemisphere as I did in the northern.
