Hi All,

Any views on mobile providers out there? I with O2 here and have an XDA exec and I think they charge £50 to unlock it. If they have a reasonable o2 service there, I was thinking I could just transfer my contract without wasting money on the unlock. It may just be that unlocking there might be cheaper. Any experiences?

Cheers

They only have two providers - Vodafone and Telecom. Telecom's phones are CDMA(?) - which mean that the SIM Cards are built into the phone so you can;t use a telecom SIM into a UKphone. Vodafone SIMCards worked in our Nokia 6310's - but they had never been locked to any network.

T-mobile charge £15 to unlock your phone. Apparently there is a butcher in Auckland who does it for about $20 - only in NZ :laugh

Got mine unlocked here from the UK as i was with T-Mobile and cost was £15. Asked at Vodaphone was there any chance to get it done here, legally or illegally and they just looked at me with a blank stare:uhoh Kim

Cheers guys,

In that case I'll bite the bullet and unlock them here this coming week. Apparently the XDA hacks can be a little "twitchy" when not done by O2 according to one market phone chap.

Unlocking phones are generally pretty easy with a little web research. Also you can buy them unlocked on ebay for pretty cheap. Just make sure you get a triband that covers 900mHz as that is the standard in NZ. (should be fine coming from England, but double check phones from the US)
