Perhaps someone can explain this to me...
When I traveled extensively in the North Island, I was unable to find good sushi. All of it was made with cooked/canned tuna...or similiar fish products that were not fresh. None of it was raw. I had this experience maybe 10-12 times. Even in Auckland. Was this just coincidence, or maybe there are particular health ordinaces that What gives?

hmmmmm
I love the sushi we can get here....

then again...I raw fish.
The smoked chicken ones are divine as are the vegetarian ones.

Did you try anywhere in Wellington??
So far I've liked 'em all!!

Well, I put myself on a sushi diet last week! Yummm - every mall here has a Sushi bar and it's generally really good. Other little shops sell it all over the place and there's even a drive thru place here on Ferry Road that does sushi :nice1

I'm planning on learning to make my own too - all the ingredients are readily available.

Also lots of Japanese restaurants and Terran Yaki restaurants ( where they cook it in front of you )... uh oh I'm hungry now

... but living in Sumner we have a GREAT choice literally on the doorstep... Thai, kebabs/souvlaki, indian, pizza, bistro, fush'n'chups.. etc so my sushi diet was, errr, slightly interrupted

There's a fantastic suchi to go bar just down Lambtom Quay from the beehive in Wellington!

We hit it at Friday a year or so back around 4pm and they were clearing the stock to close for the day. Got enough sushi for NZ$10 for me and mrs Yogi (both have good appetites) for evening meal (no lunch that day) and still had to chuck some we couldn't manage!

Cheers,

Yogi.

I'm in Dunedin, and all the japanese restaurants (and there are probably about 6) use fresh tuna.

Always wondered how you spelled that! :P

Went to a great one of those in Milton Keynes over the summer so if NZ is even better I just can't wait...

Cheers,

Yogi.

I used to eat sushi by the bucket load in Toronto there would be a sushi bar in evrey mall. Waitrose do a range, very expensive though but it surpresses that fix for it.
