Hi,

Does anyone know any good websites with info on Jo'ville area of Welli?

We on our way there in a few weeks.

All info gratefully received as would personal accounts.

Would also like recommendations of letting agents and temp accomodation (eg serviced appartments or motels) in the area.

Cheers,

Yogi.

I stayed in Johnsonville for 3 months last year. I can try to answer any specific questions you might have.

This is website is quite good http://www.wellington-homes.co.nz/default.htm we picked up a few bits of info from it just before we came out. Can't think of any motels only Glen Alton Motel. Have a look at www.jasons.com that should come back with a few. We stayed in central Wellington for a few days to get things sorted, found that we needed to get to the bank, sort the rental out and this was the best place to start.

Also organise a car rental to pick up at the airport. We didn't think we would need one, very wrong and had to get a taxi to the hotel and then another one to a hire car company. Don't use Hertz or any of the top named car firms they charge the earth, wanted $900 for the week ! ! We went to Ace Rentals who were much better around $2-300 for the week. Although if you end up buying a car early on you may only need it for a couple of days.

We used Jo De Jhong at First National Guardian for our rental. She was fantastic and comes highly recommended :) Have a look at www.guardianfirstnational.co.nz/ gives you a list of rental properties in the area. Just watch out when looking for a rental where the sun is if possible and take a compass, you really need to get some sun into the house to warm it up. The other point is that it can get really foggy in the valley of Johnsonville and at other times really windy up on the hills.

Good shopping, a Warehouse, Woolworths and Countdown supermarkets, although Pak 'n' Save in Porirua is a lot cheaper. A really nice bakery called Nada who do some fantastic cakes :nice1 Even got a small shopping mall. We found it ideal for the 3 months we were there, OH travelled in via bus which was easy. That's one thing you could look out for when looking at rentals as it's a fair walk to the train station, we managed to get a house on the bus route which was really nice as he only had to walk out across the road :D

If you have any more questions fire away :nice1
