Hi all

Just wanted to share this bit of info, as it has saved us some money, so if it can do the same for others then happy days! We have bought a section in NZ and for the currency transfer we used an agent called SMART CURRENCY EXCHANGE they are based in london and specialise in money exchange for overseas property purchases, we paid no commision or transfer fees and the rate we got was quite alot higher than the banks (think we got a rate of 2.97 and the bank offered us 2.80)

There website link is www.smartcurrencyexchange.com

Cheers

Hi Jane

We are doing the same and now have to send the deposit. To get that rate was there a minimum amount you had to transfer?

Hi

No you just need to call them and they'll talk it through with you, the rate depends on the day but they have different options so you can fix the rate for 6 months etc, we waited until we could see that the rates were getting close to 3.00, probably be about the same now.....

Cheers :cheers

www.xe.com is also worth considering. It takes a couple to days to set up your account wih them but is well worthwhile. I saved about £700 pounds on a transfer of £10,000 versus the exchange rate Barclays would have charged me and that doesn't include the commision that Barclays would have charged. So long as you have a bank account at your destination and know or can find out the Swiftcode for that account you can set up your sending and recieving accounts well ahead of time. Do this while you still have a reliable and regular internet connection as well as phone connection. Also if you may need to move money in a hurry find out how you can get your UK bank to do wire transfers remotely ie whe you are in NZ and your UK bank is unsurprisingly stil in the UK working UK banking hours.

I am torn between Money Corp and UKForex (Tranzfers). From looking at their websites at this moment Tranzfers are offering a rate of 3.0133 and Money Corp a rate of 3.02950.

Has anyone got any experience of these 2 companies for comparisons? This is quite a hard decision to make. :o

I know with UKForex that the rate you see is the rate you get.

Is this the same with Money Corp??

If not and MC then take off the 1 cent, then there is not much difference - a big difference however if the MC rate is the rate you get.

Mmmmmmm?????
