Having a bit of a thought today (steady..) Would you reccommend buying a DIY book in the UK or buying one over there. Silly question I know, but what do you think?

Well I know books are expensive over there and I would have thought DIY is the same anywhere. I would (personally) buy here. Look on ebay or I know ASDA do good ones cheap sometimes.

And you can always Google anything that's NZ specific (use Google NZ) - most things are on t'internet these days, aren't they.Debs

We are currently updating our kitchen and bathroom in our villa in NZ, and I would have to say absolutely everything is different here. We are constantly amazed at which ways the wires and plumbing go, and sometimes wonder what exactly is holding the walls up.
I guess a lot would do with what kind of properties you are use to, and what kind you expect to buy once here. We moved from a brick built/tiled roof house, in good condition from the UK. To a weatherboard, tin roof villa. Which on the surface seemed to be in good condition, (also according to the building inspector), but has suffered badly at the hands of some previous DIYer.
Our UK DIY book is not much good. The other thing to take into consideration are all the new regulations on doing anything to your home in NZ. Its gone from one extreme to another, from allowing rogue DIYers, to over-regulation of anything you do in your home. Most of the tradesmen we've employed, either don't agree with, or can't keep up with, the new regulations on DIY (I think most of them feel its a way for the council to make some money). We've had everything done professionaly, but whether that is up to council standards, I guess we'll find out when we come to sell!
Cheers

Thanks for the response. We have a UK DIY book but as you say, the houses are so different over there. Thanks for the advise.
