HI everyone

:wah We have gone back into the pool as they would not give me the extra 10 points for my qualification as it is not a degree, therefore not in absolute skills shortage. They have awarded me thirty points for work experience which has been obtain in the relevant area of my qualification, hence area of skills shortage. :roll

We are now on 110 points, and looking at the selection criteria may not get picked. (still looking at OH qualification to get extra points, but seems unlikely)

We are looking at the family sponsor ship route. What experience does anyone have in this area? OH has a sister in NZ, lived in NZ for 4 years and has pr. His parents have moved to France. Sister and brothers still in the UK. Would oh sister in Welly be able to sponsor us taking into account that his brothers and sister in the UK.

Any info would be greatly received.

Thanks Mick and Angie.

.

I havent gone through this yet - as I have another 18 months before I can sponsor family.

However - we have got the basic info. Its worth double checking because I havent looked at this lately.

The problem you have is that one of the criteria is "Centre of gravity" or where the bulk of the family is. If your OH's sister tried to sponsor one of 3 siblings, NZIS are likely to say no, because the bulk of the family is not in New Zealand.

Can I sponsor my brother, sister or adult child?

You can bring your brother, sister or adult child to New Zealand, if you are an eligible sponsor and your brother, sister or adult child meets the requirements for residence under the Family Category (Sibling/Adult Child Policy).
To be eligible your brother, sister or adult child must have
have no other siblings or parents who are living lawfully and permanently in the same country in which they are living lawfully and permanently

Theres also a bit about your OH as the one who is being sponsored into NZ must have a job or meet minimum income requirements (thst gonna be a hard one for my brother to meet).

Im sorry its not better news. On saying that - it may be worth just chatting things over with NZIS just to make sure im reading this right. I have been known to read things perfectly sensibly and then find out that it didnt say what I though it said :o

Sadly, from the information Avalon has given, it looks unlikely that you will be able to come to NZ this way.

However, although I'm not really that knowledgeable regarding the points system, I'm aware that the minimum points needed is currently quite high but it's not that long ago when you only needed 100 points. Like Marcia says, hang in there, this is just a blip. Wait for the minimum points needed to come down and don't give up. Where there's a will there's a way - lots of people get knocked back more than once - and alot of them are here now.

Good luck.

I'm trying to remember what I read about this when we did some looking into the family thing. For some reason I think there is also a family quota thing where family members who don't fit the usual requirements can go in a 'draw' to come over. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/live/familyquota/Not sure how it works but worth looking at.

If anyone can actually tell me in plain english what this qouta is I would be immensly grateful. I cant work out if its how many people can be sponsored in under the family sponsorship period - or if its extra to the normal family sponsorship.

You dont happen to know for definate do you Kiwidebs?

I'm pretty sure it's over and above the 'normal' family catagories. I think it's for people who don't fit any other catagory for immigrating but have family in NZ who are willing to sponser them. And under this they allow a certain number of people into NZ each year, I suspect it's basically a lottery once you apply under this. Clear as mud??:exit
