Our 15yr old son came home today with his shirt signed by all the kids in his class with "good luck" etc (and some streetwise txt languages i dont understand too) written all over it, then said that some of them dont beleive he is actually going. That got us thinking- is there anything we have to do officially to tell the authorities that he wont be going back next term?

We did tell the school, but they dont officially take them off the school roll until they receive notification from their new school that they have been enrolled.

Hi
Same as the previous post - when we left I wrote to our 15 year old's school and told them she would not be back. I never received a reply from them but that was about the norm from that school! Our daughter even came home from school one day saying that she'd told all her teachers she was leaving and even some of the teachers said to her "I don't believe you". Showed them, didn't we??!!!!

I actually went in personally to see my sons year head, since he would be at school for 8 weeks more after we had left....they didnt seem that bothered, had been told by Jason, but had disbelieved him (until a teacher friend confirmed when she heard the gossip in the staff room)

They made a record that he was emigrating, I said do you want my NZ contact details ...got, oh thats ok, we'll ring his gran as usual :o well she was the designated other contact...while i was at work!

and then said...good luck and that was it!

He came back at the end of his last week with his TShirt tagged with msgs etc and an excersise book as well......although he wouldnt let me read some! :laugh

the other thing to remember is child benefit....but I havent told them yet, I am waiting till he flys out in September oh and I also have to tell the NI as they sent a card the week before we left...but they said wait till he leaves.

Whenever our 8 year old daughter misses a day of school nowadays, we get anxious parents telling us how their daughter(s) came home from school saying "Franca's gone to New Zealand".

We try to reassure them that we'll make a definite announcement when we're ready to go :laugh.

Although the flights are booked, and the sale is progressing nicely (fingers crossed!) I have told, but not officially in writing, both my 8 years olds school and the new secondary school Joe would have been going into in September what our plans our. I have also told them that I don't yet want to put it in writing in case ANYTHING unexpected happens and then they don't have a school to go back to in September - both said that is fine. TBH I might post the letters from Heathrow!

My son had his leavers play last night, made all the more poignant for him and his sister by the fact they are leaving the country as well as the school, I blubbed like a big girls blouse :wah :wah :wah My 8 year old seems to be taking it all in her stride apart from the emotion created by moments like last night - my son has always been a bit more thoughtfull and I can see the look of worry on his face at times - I keep trying to big it up to him whilst feeling the same anxiety myself. Sorry, I digress back to schools - selfishly just do what is good for you - if another parent wants a place at a good school so badly, they will take it whenever it is offered.

Oh, I know the feeling. My 5 year old son had his last day today, complete with cards, presents and signed school shirt. At the church service for leavers yesterday I did have to wipe a few tears away (although I blended in nicely with all the year 6 parents :D ). It's not that I want to stay, it's just the thought of leaving all our friends behind here. He even woke up today and told me he felt too sick to go to school - the thought of leaving all his friends to go so far away had finally hit home :no

Just got the leaving party on Sunday to get through now - only a small, intimate gathering of about 150 people to see me looking my best. Oh well, I'll be able to hide behind the sunglasses for most of it ;)

We fly into Christchurch Tuesday 1st August. We've a motel booked for two weeks, and from there on we're going to play it by ear :D

Our shipping stuff should arrive after a couple of weeks, but we'll be holding it as long as we can at the storage, until we have somewhere permanent to go. (However, we've already been told that they know it will be stopped, and will have problems with some of the equipment on board  )

Currently trying to fit in about 60 hours into each 24 hour day!!!!
