Good news and bad news..........

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisuriser - and do they offer free gifts at certain times - yes you can, and they do offers too, Farmers to it (bit like a Debenhams)

Gravy Granuals - no, well yes, but they are not the same at all. (british shop sells them)

Cadbury's Chocolate - especially Flakes / Ripples , flakes yes, ripples no, but NZ Cadbury does have a different taste...

Magnum ice creams - Yup

Snickers bar's aka Marathon :roll , nope, but there are Moro bars

Heinz Tomato Ketchup - yup, but slightly different taste, is the Auzzie one..

After Eight Mints :nice1 - dunno, think so,

Goats Cheese - yup, but maybe not the variety you are used to

Apple or Onion Chutney - you can get various chutneys, but again, maybe not the range

Airport style novels e.g. Kathy Reich, Harlan Coben, John Grisham - yes, but they are generally around $40 each..

Hubby loves his cold bottled beers, Topic bars and Ben & Jerry ice cream, you can get beers, some nice ones too, no topics and no Ben & Jerrys

Hi

You can get most of the things on your list - but at a price. Books, especially, are very expensive (but local libraries are fantastic!). You might want to bring over a few packets of gravy granules (do a forum search for previous discussions on this!). Cadbury's chocolate def tastes different, but so long as i don't buy dairy milk it's ok. Snickers and Magnums are the same as the UK. I'm pretty sure you can get clinique but it'll be expensive (get some taxfree at the airport!). Cold bottled beers are def available - don't think OH would've moved here otherwise!! :laugh

For goat's and sheep cheeses, you'll be fine. Lots of variety, although a lot of normal cheese seems to be double or triple cream. :uhoh

I've found some wicked onion chutneys in Moore Wilsons and the local deli's as opposed to the Watties/Heinz stuff in the supermarket.

Beer's good :nice1

Farmers do Clinique, I'm not sure of the price as I'm a Clarins girl but I stocked up at the airport and also packed a load in the container. :D

Books are very expensive but Trade Me me is good and you can resell them when you've finished (at least that's what I tell OH I'm doing) and there are special offers now and again like the Whitcoulls voucher (half price book).

Beer? You certainly won't need to live without that :D (is it even possible to live without beer?) - there's a good range in supermarkets, even picked up some bottled real ales the other day!

How much is beer in NZ? Is it dear/cheap relative to UK?

Just wondering really. The answer won't make any significant difference to our overall budget, ahem. Honest.:uhoh

My wife is wondering whether "Prescriptives Lipid Barrier moisturiser and dermapolish" system is available there.

Not sure if this makeup or car polish! Is sitting here next to me fretting!

Beer is around 10-15 dollars for 6, depending on brewery and special offers, you can get 12 packs for about 18 sometimes...

In pubs it can be as high as 7 for one.....

Gumby, get your Mrs to have a look here...

I am in the dark as to what it is too....

You know what, I've met more home-brewers and people with home stills here than I ever did in the UK! My old neighbour in Chch made some of the best gin I've ever tasted from little more than some sugar, water, herbs etc and her $400 still in the shed! Marvellous!

Back to ice cream
Yeahhh to Magnums, but OH would like some comfort on the lack of Ben & Jeey's - is there an equivilent? Probably a No to Chunky Monkey but his favorite is Phish Food - vanilla and chocolate ice creams swirled with chocolate fudge sauce and fish shaped pieces of chocolate - obviously wont get an exact match but perhaps those already in nz could give him examples to off set his deep dissapointment.

The beer confirmations have cheered him somewhat.

Ooh, one thing I am looking forward to getting some more of is that Monteith's Summer Ale. So much better than Pimms! It's like a shandy made with ginger beer instead of lemonade (and without the resulting reduction in abv!) We'll arrive in jan so I should have time to stockpile it to see me through the winter.

I would love to give home brewing and wine making a go. I taped a whole series on Sky a while ago but somehow taped over the lot! :wah

Anyone know where I could find out info on how to go about it and a shopping list of the things I need as a start up?
