Hi,
We have virtually sorted out what we need to emigrate BUT want to take our 3 dogs. Does any one have any experience of taking pets and also any tips on the best way to do it, and any pit falls? My lot have their Pets Passport for travel and have been over seas several times but never as far as NZ so we are worried about the trip for them and are alos finding it hard to get any clear info on the regs required.
Thanks in advance!

We are shipping our two Labradors and the main issue is cost.
Contact Golden Arrow shippers on 01588 680240 (Steve or Chris) - they send you an info pack and have the patience of saints on the phone......
cheers

Thanks. We were aware cost would be a biggy! Someone said to budget £1,000 a dog, am selling the car to cover all our air fares! Husband is a vet so hoped to save some costs by him doing it but Defra have advised us to use an independant person so that's scuppered that! Have found it impossible to find anything on internet to help, most people seem to leave theirs behind, just want a clear list of what i need to do, so will try the phone number Mon, Thanks v.much.

Every bit of a thousand quid per dog.
The requirements are fairly explicit:
http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/imports/animals/
... specify what you are importing and the country of export.
There is no requirement that the same veterinarian perform all of the required work (I clarified this via a 'phone call too). Not documented well are the timings of the required rabies shot and following titre:
(1) The titre's validity is assumed to expire after one year.
(2) The nominal wait before shipment after the titre is therefore less than one year but more than six months. I have been told by various pet shippers that Biosecurity NZ can choose to reduce this time to four months at their discretion. Since we waited more than six months, I never pursued this.
There are plenty of topics on this board w/r/t pet imports, with referrals and the occasional vigourous debate!

We used GA, and it cost about £1600 for our collie cross, that too was covered by the sale of a car! I dont see why your hubby cant take the blood samples himself, cos they get sent off to an independent tester anyway (GA make you little packs of instructions and envelopes of what to send off and when!) (the blood tests cost us about £70 to get done)
Our boy was 9, and he settled down the minute he saw us, and his own bed! He loves it here...
