Just a quick post to those who know us well from the message boards. We adopted a baby girl last week & have named her Charlotte. She's an absolute beauty... and will have NZ passport way before her Mum & Dad do!!!

Park City Partner, Congrats!!
Tia, it took us 9 months to get into the adoption pool from our first enquiry to CYF about adoption and because the birth mother picks the adoptive parents here, we were extremely lucky & were in the pool for less than 3 months, but there are people who have been in there for years. We got the first baby in over a year in Wellington so were extremely lucky - we thought that being from overseas would make us at a disadvantage to locals but it didn't :o)

Many congratulations from us too!! She looks absolutely gorgeous - I bet you're just sitting there for hours looking at her and pinching yourself to check that you're not dreaming that she's really there!! So happy for you guys that things moved so quickly.
It brought back memories of me & my parents picking up my adopted sister in New Plymouth 28 years ago, when we were selected by the birth mother.
Enjoy these precious first weeks and months of getting to know each other.
Hugs to the 3 of you.

Just wanted to announce our own little kiwi, who was born recently.
A lovely baby boy, who feeds, sleeps, then sleeps some more.
Does anyone know how we go about sorting out his passport?
Cheers

Tia, I was thinking you should have your little bundle by now. big congrats, and wheres the photo?????? :D
for kiwi passport:- (edited to add I assume he qualifies for one, check here though http://www.citizenship.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/Whats-new-Changes-to-Citizenship-by-Birth-in-New-Zealand-from-2006-FAQs?OpenDocument
http://www.passports.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/Services-Passports-Index?OpenDocument
for UK passport:-

You need to be pretty picky with the photo, (there are examples and instructions on the website) but if you have a digi camera, I laid Andrew down on a pale cream sheet, and took loads, picked the best one that nearly matched the example, then sent it to
http://www.frogprints.co.nz/
to get them printed on the proper paper at the proper size, and we got his accepted no problems

Congrats! And welcome to the wee boy. I believe that just because he was born here doesn't necessarily grant him citizenship. It used to but was changed a few years ago. I think he needs to have at least one Kiwi parent to get it.
We just did Blythe's passports...she got a US and a NZ one because her dad is a Kiwi. Trying to get a picture that would be acceptable was a trick. I had them printed at the Fuji photo place is Takapuna and the woman there was very helpful. I had taken a bunch with my camera and went there to print them and she helped me get one that would be accepted. It was a real trick because she had to have her eyes open, mouth closed and you need to see both ears. It also had to be light blue background. Well we seemed to get it right because she now has her passports and is ready to take to the skies in November to meet my family back in the States.
Good luck with your new boy.

Thanks for your congratulations.
Jub Jub, thanks for the links, you are a star! I think you should start your own NZ info website, you always seem to have all the answers and links.
We have PR, which the link seems to say, will grant the little one citizenship. Does this mean he can have 2 passports also (UK & NZ)? Or do we just pick one and apply for that?
Park City Partner, not sure how we'll get a photo with eyes open, mouth shut. We might have to use sellotape! How will you decide which passport for her to travel on, or do you just take both?
Cheers
Tia

Congratulation Tia and family. :cheers
I understand that he'll have two passports UK and NZ, but how you get to choose which one you use is probably determined by the length of the queue at the immigration desk at the airport.:D

29th August 2006, 10:36 AM
Tia, our little fella has both, and when we took him back to UK we took him in on his UK one, but left NZ on his kiwi one.
the most important one for you would be the kiwi one, so he can travel freely in and out of NZ, as you have PR he is a citizen. If he just had the british one you would need visas in it, and I dont think they would issue them cos he is a citizen, if that makes sense!
I only have the links and stuff, cos been through it all myself for our little guy!

I was told that once Blythe was registered as a US citizen she had to travel in and out of the US on her US passport and I believe the same is true for NZ. But as it was mentioned, the citizens' line is generally shorter!

Hi Tia
Congratulations on the arrival of your new addition. Our two have both NZ and UK passports. We used the UK ones when travelling in and out of UK and the NZ ones for getting into NZ. I actually pulled out all 7 passports (I have both as well, hubbies the only one with just one passport) and asked which ones they wanted!!
Good luck with the photo!
