We decided to rent a house in Christchurch (Well, Lincoln, a small town about 2kms South of Chch centre) and got the keys on Thursday. Our container arrived Friday and we have spent the weekend unpacking and sorting out with the help of good friends.
Had fun and games with MAF at first as they questioned why I had 20 boxes marked "P.C." and was claiming that I wasn;t trying to import business machines - but they finally accepted that I am just a geek ;)
The Moving Company were great - they allowed us a couple of days "Detention" at $150 instead of 5 Days storage at $600 ($9 a day plus "Handling fee" of $540-odd!). The unpackers were great - everythign out and where we wanted it - put all the beds and chairs and tables together and took packaging and boxes away with them. Then returned Saturday to collect more boxes and will come out later in the week to get the rest of them - great service.
Had 1 small breakage - a small crack in the back of a TV cabinet which you can;t see anyway - everything else was perfect. Masons in the UK had written "Misc" on about 30 of the 197 boxes and MAF wanted to look at them as well as the Golf Clubs. MAF arrived at half one on Friday, opened about 10 boxes and the golf clubs and declared everything okay!
So all in all an excellent service and have got 6 months now to decide whether subdivision is for us or whether we need to be out on a lifestyle :)
