We were quoted £5770 by GB Liners and £6567 by Pickfords, after that we decided to cut down, so the people buying the house are buying the bedromm furniture, may not need it over there anyway as most seem to have fitted wardrobes.

Last week we had PSS, GB Liners, John Masons. they said we had 620, 600, and 596 cubic feet of stuff, so the reps were consistent in their estimates. PSS quoted us 2600 for shared container, 3500 for 20ft reefer of our own. GB quoted 3200 for shared, 3500 for our own, John masons only quoted 2250 for our own (not exact figures but close enough to give you an idea)
Remember when compairing quotes that you are paying for labour to pack and wrap your stuff, so a 20ft container full of delicate antique furniture will cost alot more than 20ft container full of easy-to-wrap flat pack stuff, or tools etc that dont geally get wrapped at all.
Also, i would use a company that does international moves only, that way the guys should pack stuff well enough for shipping (as opposed to general moving by road) and they should know the rules. for example, When i asked if stuff could get lost in a shared container, GB said that our stuff would go into a wooden crate before going into the container- but the others said they never heard of that, especially as NZ bont like untreated wood being imported.
The other thing i noticed was that these guys cover huge areas of the UK and just wanna get on the motorway home. PSS spent 20 mins guesstimating our stuff, GB about 15 mins less- but then John Masons guy had a good look at our stuff, inputted everything into his handheld PC (which i suspect is more accurate than the old scribble/add up method) and even gave us info direct for the company they use for big stuff when i asked about my caravan. He knew all the regs with wicker, wood, outdoor stuff etc too, and our wicker seat pads and baskets will go in a box of their own for inspection (theory is 1 box = 1 MAF fee) Nobody else even mentioned it.
Our money will be with John Masons

We had White & Company and Burke Bros Moving group out today. PSS are coming out next week.
White & Company looked at everything and entered it into his handheld PC, then showed packing material and explained everything that was/wasn't included, they also provided cublic feet estimate and approx timescales (Always good to ask if they have got other shipments going to where you are going if you have a groupage/shared container). Burke Bros used the old fashioned pen & paper method and weren't bothered about seeing the furniture, they would give me any guestimates on time scale or cublic footage.
Can someone give me John Mason's number, so I can have at least 4 quotes.

PSS said it would be cheaper if we used a reefer, we just might squeeze everything in, but Id rather go with the larger 20ft as we might get a new fridge freezer this end and the NZ friends are getting their orders ready, so we will definately have 1000 cuft

Having trouble deciding on which company to use. OH said to buy a container and ship it ourselves. Has anyone else done this and if so how? Cant find too much info on shipping companies and have no idea of cost etc.

hi all
Brittannia quoted me 3800 & John Mason 3071 (my pound sign's gone awol ) the also want an additional 41 for a special crate to put the glass off a large table in .
My biggest problem is trying to motivate DH into action - he works best under some pressure & says he will spring into action 5 days before the shippers arrive . I can only hope this is true or all my gardening stuff will be staying here . I think he is practicing his laid back attitude in preparation for kiwi life .....
JM comes 15 & 16 th August to pack us up - can only hope all will go well .
