Hi there,
I'm completely new to this site - so go easy on me!
Based in the UK, I've been selected from the pool and am just waiting for my ITA to arrive.
I work in PR and was wondering if anyone had any advice on getting PR jobs in New Zealand. We (me and hubby) want to live in the north island. Guess most of these kind of jobs are in Auckland.
any advice appreciated.

hi there!

I have a temp job in PR right now. It's just filling in for someone while she is away on annual leave. But I got my temp job through Madison's. They're based in Auckland. It was just a fluke that I'm in a PR position, because I don't have PR experience - only TV experience. But, in my experience, it's very difficult to get a job here. So sometimes a temp agency is the way to go.

Good luck!

Hi Velma

How's Scooby? :laugh Love the ID.

I'm afraid I don't have any answers to jobs in PR, but just wanted to say welcome to the forum. :cheers

Have you tried all the usual sites like www.seek.co.nz (http://www.seek.co.nz) and www.stuff.co.nz? (http://www.stuff.co.nz?)

thanks for the advice guys - I'll check out those links.
I'm also looking at a PR agency called PR People based in Auckland who seem quite good.

Hi Velma,
I'd recommend making direct contact with people, i.e. finding "well-placed" people and just mailing them cold. I've found people incredibly helpful through this route. BTW, I'm not in PR, more Learning and Development, from a perspective of owner-practitioner. An example of what I'm talking about is to mail directly the HR Director of TVNZ. Guess if you did the equivalent with the BBC you may not get a reply at all; from NZ I had a fabuluous response with LOADS of contacts.
Give it a shot!

NZ is all about who you know not what you know. Taking people for a coffee, even if they have no position available, is seen to be the thing to do. Get your name and face known as everyone knows everyone else. When Mags went for an interview one of the interviewers noticed Zoe was one of her referees. "Is she still at MWH?" - totally disparate industries but people know people.

Not that I should be giving you any help... ;)
