hi everyone,
We mailed my husband's FBI records request on May 1st. His credit card was charged on June 22. The FBI website says processing takes 8 - 10 weeks, just wondering if, in other people's experience, that's 8 weeks after they charge the credit card?

(No big panic, we don't need it yet, but it's been almost 3 months since we mailed the request so I'm starting to wonder where it is.)

We live in the UK but lived in the USA for 4 years so needed FBI and UK police checks doing .. sent them off at the same time and the FBI one came back in about 4 weeks and the UK one went right up to the line and took the full 9 weeks!!! We did pay with a certified check though so can't tell you if it has a bearing on when your credit card is charged but don't think you will have to wait much longer ... did you put a date on the outside of the envelope saying when you wanted it by ? ( we did and that might have made a difference) ... sorry no more help than that

I needed the FBI records also and they were taking ages so i started calling to put some kinda pressure to the office and it work! so if u have a min i recomend you do that.

what number did you call? I looked on the FBI website but didn't see a number for the records check division.

I had mine done a year ago (just to make sure an indescretion from my youth wasnt on there), and have sent mine off again. The first time it took 7 weeks, and after six weeks I emailed the address given on the FBI site, and that person knew they were on the way. Try and email them, it cant hurt!!

I think ours took about 6 weeks, maybe less. We left it late but we told them when we needed it by and it arrived just in time.

We recently requested the FBI check and they returned the information in about 4-5 weeks. On their website they suggest you write on the envelop and cover letter what date you need it by.

Thanks everyone. We don't really need it until November (we've applied for a work visa with no police check to get Nik into NZ and then he'll apply for PR in NZ), so we didn't give them a date. So it probably got put in the no-hurry pile. I'll try to find something else to worry about.:)

Much to my surprise, I got a reply to my email.
"Your results were mailed on 7/24/06 via first class mail to your address in Roseburg, OR."
So the answer to my question is, about 3 months if you don't give them a deadline.
