Staglands (http://www.staglands.co.nz/) is in Upper Hutt, north of Wellington. We're living on the Kapiti Coast and drove west through the Akatarawa Rd to get there ona suprisingly warm winter day this week. Nothing too exotic - peacocks, geese, Kea, parrots, finches, rabbits, donkeys, sheep, deer, wild pigs... All the walkthrough aviaries and wildlife areas get you up close and personal though. I imagine kids would love it. They have a great log cabin cafe and on the weekends and holidays they do pony rides for the kids.

Lovely pictures - although like Angie & Mick I had to copy them into Word so I could see them.

We went there for our youngest son's 2nd birthday and spent a whole day going around. We enjoyed it as much as the kids did :D Definitely a place to go back to in the summer months with the watering holes and pony rides.

We went there after xmas last year when I was visiting my rellies. We met a rather over friendly donkey who wanted to eat my cousins pushchair!!!!! and he kept following us everywhere. Loved it there though
