We were just wondering.

If there was an item/items you wished you had taken with you to NZ that you find difficult or expensive to buy.

What would they be?

Bisto gravy cos you cannot make decent gravy here the stuff they sell is rubbish!
Cadbury's chocolate, they have it, but it is just not the same!

I think the most important thing I brought with me that I havent seen here is my condenser dryer. They have tumble dryers but not condenser dryers! Although i thought for some reason I wouldnt need it and my washing would dry lovely outside, the weather has been terrible in June and July and you couldn't get a thing dry. Aparently the most rain they have seen here in 17 years! and of course the UK is having the hotest heatwave in I dont know how long and we miss it! sods law

Yeah, they have dryers with vents on the front door, and thats it! you have to open the window.

although its handy for warming up the kitchen at the same time :laugh :laugh

I :laugh miss Currys.......they dont have proper curry sauses or spice mixes...whats all this Butter chicken lark????

havent tryed it yet, but it just sounds all fatty...? I did find a tika masala but it didnt taste like one from back home, and it cost $2 more...cause it was off the international shelf???

SO I MISS GOOD CURRYS...AND NANN BREAD :wah

Great question Heidi & Rick...sounds like most of the answers are from UK transplants. Anyone from the US have different answers? I saw some posts about mac & cheese (I can live without that), and makeup (quite the variety of topics in this forum!!). Thanks,

Katie

From the US: Coffee beans and a coffee roaster. Lots of espresso drinks here, but it's hard to find a good cup of brewed coffee. Deodorant-limited choice of brands and many are spray, which I just can't switch over to. The chefs and ingrediants from my favorite Mexican restaurant in Phoenix.

Not bragging - but quite lucky cos our supermarket sells loads of English, Dutch and Indian/Thai foods.

Yes - it is dearer - but on those days when you need some "home" comfort its great.

The other week we had Walkers crisps for $1!!

But it is nice to have a Curly Wurly or Yorkie Bar for lunch and hubby likes to have the Heinz beans in the pantry (for security).

Paxo and Bisto yes - but it is the choc he misses the most - so $2 for a bit of nostalgia isnt too bad.

If u want i will make a list of all the UK stuff in the shop then if u are passing thru Levin you can check it out.

If I'd been more organised I would've put more clothes in for the kids in the next 2-3 sizes up. The cost and quality of clothes over here is horrendous. Luckily MIL made it to the Next sale and has a suitcase of clothes for the kids when she comes over next year!! :raebanana

I love my condenser dryer - but it costs loads of $$$ in electricity to run :wah

Being a vegetarian, I would bring a suitcase full of Mrs.Macca's stuff!!!They just never heard of it here, which is a real shame.

I can smile at this cos my 'foster grandson" age 13 has just flown in from the UK on his own to spend a month with us and in his bag he had a dozen packets of Walkers, BIG jar of marmite, original bisto gravy powder, 4 big slabs of cadburys and some birds custard powder. Really all of lifes essentials, but the most important one being the boy himself and the fact he wants to be with us enough to brave the flight, he did it last year too, and having a foster daughter who lets him come out. I am going to enjoy the next four weeks.

Good on him, I wish I could talk my mum into considering the flight :no
Good timing this thread as Im making up my list for my last Cost-co shop on Saturday. I hope that the shippers will just sneak it all in for me.
I already have shampoo, conditioner, and the above mentioned items on my list. Any other ideas?
