well in April this year i typed our first post introducing us all and telling of our plans to Sell our house and take the money (and family) fly :exit to N.Z. and take it from there with work visas and then apply for PR .
But plans change.
We had an offer on our house for the asking price within the first week it was on the market (great) then with only the contracts to sign they pulled out claiming that he had lost his job ( i know this is a lie as I've seen him going to work since),then as the football was coming to a sad end 2 couples viewed the house then they both wanted to view again ( on the same day ) then they both put an offer in the next day so we took the first offer.
And inbetween all that we submitted our EOI without a job offer (130) points and it was accepted then we got our ITA on the 17th july so now we just take each day as it comes we've got our son Jacob 5 a place in school for the start of term in sept in uk I'm just about to send my qualifications and work history to the EWRB we've sent off for our police checks next thing is to book medicals for somwhere in the North West ,but that can't be between 08 sept and 22 sept as I'm off to N.Z to do my electrical safety course and look for a job offer ( last time there I was offered 2 jobs in Whakatane so thats my first port of call) .
Although we had our hopes of being in NZ on the 25 Aug 06 it did'nt all go to plan but the dream is still there and we are going to be there as a family hopefully by this Chistmas.

By the way has anyone done the campervan thing as well as the rental car /hotel thing, if so which was either better ,

well got to go now as early start for work see some of you on the 12th for the North West meet :cheers

Unsure where you are looking at settling, but this company are always on the lookout for sparkies. My friend works for them. Maybe its worth dropping them a line and see what the score is.

Ahh - life can throw some dirt at us can't it? We too were mucked around sooooo much with our house sale. We had already booked flights but had to change them for 2 months later - but we got here in the end. You're talking about being here for Xmas, well that's only 4 months on from your original E.T.A ..... not much in the grand scale of things ........ not that it's any consolation to you eh.

As for the camper van thing. We did that 3 years ago when my sis and her family were over here. I would do it again in a flash - it was great !!! You have total freedom and flexibility, and the camp sites over here are well equipped and very reasonably priced. The only thing we'd do different if we were to hire a camper again, is to get a bigger one. There's 4 of us so naturally we hired a 4 berth ..... by the end of the holiday we were very aware that we were cramped. I'd book a 6 berth next time without a doubt.

Good luck, hang in there - all will come good in the end.

Sounds nice and fast to me- I'm on the slow boat! So it's all in your perspective.

Here's a thread on campervans:

Hi

Have done motels and camper - motels considerably cheaper - camper van was a great experience - lovely campsites and beaches - even if you only do it once (the van cost us £1000 for 10 days and then camp site costs on top - although these not too expensive - it is worth the experience.

Hi There,

I think most of us encountered the house sale problem, we were there as well, just hang in there and it will all come right in the end, maybe not as planned, but things rarely go as we plan them! We only stayed in the motel, havent done the campervan thing, but we are planning a touring holiday at the end of the year. Motels are clean and fairly cheap if you look around.

Good luck with your new house sale, hope this one flies by without any hiccups and if you pass through Palmerston North give us a call and you'll be welcome for a drink.
