We are now wondering if we should move our wordly goods into a rental and then move them again (hopefully quite swiftly)into a permanent home OR put our stuff into storage for a month or two and continue to rent furniture. :confused:
Doing the latter would cost approx. $ 900-1400 for 1 or 2 months storage plus extra furniture hire - about total of $2000-2500.

How much approx to move a 40ft container's worth of belongings by local removal firm- anybody know ? if it is less than $1200 then it's the cheaper option - but a lot more work !!

We have a similar problem, we don't know if OH will be working in Auckland or Welli so I asked the shippers Doree Bonner how much it will cost to move out 40" container worth of stuff from Auckland to Welli and this was the reply

"Further to your query regarding moving your effects from Auckland to Wellington, I can now inform you that the cost would be $6400.00 inclusive of GST plus insurance in transit at a rate of $2.50%.

I hope this assists and please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance."

:wah Further assistance! A second mortgage would be good. We will have to store our stuff in the UK until we know where we will be based.

We've just moved a few km's round Welly and the estimates were for moving a 20 ft container and a huge covered trailer (don't know what they are called but like a small container on wheels).

I had 5 quotes and they ranged between $1800 - $2300. They were all willing to haggle and one went from $1900 down to $1600 when asked.

That was for 2 days storage plus 3 days work, full pack and unpack etc. 3 guys on days' 1 & 2 , 6 guys on day 3 with the company we went with.

Most of the companies in Welly seem to be related to each other too.
