I was told by Doree BOnner's today that they don't want to finish the removals the day we compleat as they can't manage in the time allowed. (We have the standard compleation time clause of midday). They want to do the final days removals the day before. They plan to be here for 4 days prior packing everything.
I'm a bit put out about this, if it had been a domestic removal they would manage to load up the lorries and be done for midday so why can't they in this instance?
Has everyone else finished with the removals the day before compleation or earlier?
I was hoping we could finish the pack and compleat by midday and then drive to the airport for our 9.30 pm flights. Is this daft?
I didn't want to have to pay for and have the upheaval of having the kids in a hotel for the last night if it can be advoided. Unfortunatly we can't stay with family due to their continued unhappiness with our planned move to NZ.
Any one any experience of this?
Thanks Debbie

We were in your position and i didnt want to pay for accomadation but wanted to make sure everything was done before the day we emigrated. Our next door neighbour actually came around and said we could all stay there for a week (5 of us) and they would have our leaving party at theres. Bless them!! it was a squash but one of the best weeks we have ever had and needless to say they are invited to NZ to stay with us free of charge anytime they like. (there coming for Xmas)Beleive me you dont want to be stresed about the house and furniture etc in the last few days i would definetly try and camp out with someone . Cheers Cardy :yes

Hi Debbie
Not quite as big a move but in 2004 we moved from Leeds to Scotland. The removal men were here the two days before packing up (fortunately we had managed to pack the boys off to their grandparents). They left us with our bed and 2 garden chairs for the last night - so we took ourselves off for a takeaway and then went straight to bed. The next morning they arrived at 9.00 a.m. loaded the bed etc. and drove up to Scotland. We then had to spend a night in a hotel as due to the distance they couldn't unload until the next day.
Well worth it though... despite the added expense of a hotel you can at least relax a little.

Yep we stayed overnight in our empty house after waving off our stuff in the lorry.
It was horrid and empty and we also went to bed early too. We only had the bed as that was going on the skip the next day :exitBut we had too as the professional cleaning co was coming as part of our rental contract the next day and the inventory clerk too.
We did'nt want to wait until we got here to find there was a problem back there.
We didn't have kids with us though.
Surely if they are going to be there for 4 days they could leave your beds til last on the morning of your flights? Be a camping adventure for the kids, maybe not for you though.

Our packers came on the Monday and Tuesday and our house sale didn't complete until the Friday and we flew on the Saturday. We borrowed various essential things from people and and threw other stuff out (i.e. feather duvets and pillows). We ate takeaways on paper plates with plastic knives and forks! We treated it all as a bit of fun and excitement even though it was tinged with a bit of sadness.

We did it on the last two days, and it was a bit hair raising... it was a bit of a communication caffuffle, or I was just being thick (I blame the preggy hormones!) We were late getting out, and only saved from a doorstep confrontation with new owners due to funds not coming through earlier in the day.
Remember that the container only comes on the last day, and everything has to go in there and then, they got ours to arrive at 1pm.
Your only real solution is to stay at yours as long as poss and get them to pack the beds last (they will do that), and then it looks like a hotel for your last night, shame you cant stay with folks, you just need to start your adventure a day earlier....

Personally wouldnt recomend leaving the last day of moving to your leaving date. What happens if there are unforeseen problems with the container or truck? More stress at an already stressful time. Pay for motel, much safer.
