I submitted my EOI back in early July (140 points, no job offer) and was selected from the pool a week later. Due to various changes in my circumstances I would ike to try and find a job in NZ now so I can get out there as soon as I can.

I am a Unix/application backline support engineer who has had over 11 years experience of supporting Internet facing applications and services including web servers, web proxy caches, and mail servers. For the last 5 years I have worked for a very well known IT company.

Specifically I am looking for a job in Auckland. Does anyone know of any IT recruitment agencies and/or IT companies who would be willing to deal with someone who has not yet been granted residence or a work visa?

Any other help or advice would be gratefully received.

Rgds.,
Nick.

P.S. If you know of anyone who is looking for someone with my skills and would like a copy of my CV please PM me.

Hi Nick

Get on a plane and let them know you are coming.

I have been sending CV for my OH who has 30 years IT Software experience with well know IT company, with little response. Plane ticket bought and now he has 4 agency interviews lined up and one yet to make a date. Initially we were going on a 5 week reccy to get jobs, but I have in principle been offered a job (by one of the agencies attached my CV to one who replied to my OH) So we have packed up the house, sold our business & house in 4 weeks flat!

If you have IT web experience I doubt you will have much trouble in getting work IMO. We too have submitted EOI 125 points no job and been selected

Companies that replied and set up interviews below. You could say you have booked flights and say a date you are coming, then when they reply book those flights. Just a thought.

Edwina Cagol [edwina@therealthing.co.nz]
Marcus Logan [marcus@qidr.co.nz]
Peter Bankers [peter.bankers@allianceit.co.nz]
Ben Pearson [ben@qidr.co.nz]
Leanne Carter [Leanne.Carter@robertwalters.co.nz]

Plus the agency I am about to get a job with said they have got really busy in the last 2 weeks!!! They said they can get a work permit if you have a job offer, within a day and you automatically get one for your spouse so that will make it easier to get jobs for both of you. Then you inform immigration change of status.

Angela
PM me if you need any more advise.

Think my OH worked for same well know company down there.

Cant much help as we are based near welly, but good luck anyway.

Do you have to go to Auckland - or would you consider Welly or Christchurch?

Hello Nick

Try writing directly to the IT companies : http://www.ict-nz.org.nz/search/directory/index.html

You never know................................. ;)

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your posts.

Angela - I am gearing myself more and more towards the "jump on a plane" option. I still waiting to see who my current situation pans out which should be clearer in the next weeks plus obviously I will need to discuss things with my partner. The way things are going we will probably fly out in November so I will probably PM you nearer the time if we decide to go for it.

Avalon - it has to be Auckland at least initially. We found a really lovely area to live near Auckland which my fiancee is very keen and has created her own dream of living in NZ to join to the ones I've had for several years.

Singtel - thanks for the links, I will probably start chasing them up soon if we make the decision to go to NZ in November.

Rgds.,
Nick.

Hi Nick

I used this lot http://www.iconrec.co.nz/. This was for a job i saw advertised on www.jobserve.com, seem to be quite a lot of NZ jobs advertised on here (its a UK site).

I got a job offer, so provided we can agree salary and everything, i'll be on my way, havent done anything about getting a visa yet, supposedly can get it sorted when i get out there

Cheers
Gavin
