Hi everone, just thought i would say hello, and although my name may be new to this board, i have actually been visiting it everyday for months learning all i can from all the great advice. I had trouble registering, which is why i only just came on.

Anyway, the wife and i went to NZ last november for a recy trip and a few interviews. After spending the last few months waiting to hear back from companies as to when they might need me, we finaly heard that this November one company will be ready for me to start with them!! We are so excited and now only have 3 months to get everything ready!

We are thinking about just getting working holiday visas to save time, and as soon as we get there start the EOI route. Does this sound ok, and does anyone know any advantages / disadvantages doing it this way?

Cheers.

Hi Greenday,
Congratulations on the job! :raebanana
Why not get a workpermit? That's also easy to obtain.

Hi,

Just want to say congratulations for the job! Well done!!! :clap
Where will you be based?Get all the paperwork for the PR sorted whilst in England(police check, qualifications,etc..) and apply for a Work Visa/Permit with your job offer,so you can start working as soon as you land here.
:nice1

Good luck!

Hi Nienke & Millsy-K, thanks for the advice on the Work Visa/Pemit. If i could get one, that would be great. But when i checked it out again, i got the impression that you could only get a work visa your job was on the long terms skills shortage, or of exeptional talent? My job is just on the short term skills list, do you know if i can still apply? And if so would my wife be able to go on that too?

Thanks.

When you submit your EOI make sure you tick the option regading having a job offer in place, that should speed the process up. Within 10 days after submiting it, you should be assigned to an Immigration Officer and from then on, you can contact him, fax your job offer over and get a work permit. You wife can also apply for a work permit as your dependant.

temporary workpermit (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/worktemporarily/howdoiapply/default.htm)

I think you would need this workpermit (see link above), and once you have that one you can apply for PR as soon as you're in New Zealand.

Hello Greenday

OH's new colleague got a permanent job offer and he arrived in NZ with working holiday visa and he was told by NZIS that it is not acceptable. If he had a temporary job offer then there will be no issue with the working holiday visa. So he has to apply for a work permit before he is allow to start work.

A friend of us got a permanent job offer while living in UK and the family arrived in NZ as tourists. The couple received the work permits less than 2 weeks. He is the principal applicant and his wife automatically get it as well.

Hope this info helps :cheers

Great thanks for all your advice. Singel: That info is very useful thanks. But just wondering why, and at what stage did your friend have to inform NZIS about the job?

After reading again, I still think that a job needs to be on the immediate skills shortage list to get a work permit, but its quite confusing. Help!!?

I will be working from home 100% of the time, so we can choose where to live. We have have pretty much decided on Hawkes Bay area.

We dont think we can get all our info for the EOI within 2 or 3 months, so maybe we will have to go on a work holiday / visa and apply as soon as we get there.

Thanks.

The couple went to the NZIS office to apply for the work permit on the 2nd day of their arrival cos' the company would like him to start work as soon as possible.
