I would be interested to hear from people who have sent their passports off as to how long it takes before you get them back. We have several foreign visits planned between now and Feb 07 (when we are coming to NZ) and I need to work out the best time to send them off.
Once again, many thanks to all the help people give. It really is appreciated
All the best

We didn't send ours with the ITA, and our 'approved in principal letter' says to allow a month to process once we do send them! Hope this helps! :)

We gave our passports in with the ITA july 12th,and we havent got them back yet.
Luckily we dont have any plans to go anywhere this summer, apart from back up north to say goodbye.
Id forgotten about them but youve now got me wondering how long do they keep them?
Do they send them back and then you send them back to them for stamping or do they just keep them till PR approved

I didn't send my passport in until my CO rang to let me know that our PR was granted. Then it took 2 weeks for the passports to be returned.
I'd speak to to your CO to find out the progress of your application as they might be able to give you a better indiction of when will be the best time to post in the passports.

Invitation to apply - comes when your EOI (expression of interest) has been accepted!
Basically its where you have to send in all the documnets to back up what you have claimed in your EOI - references from employers, proof of qualifications, birth certificates etc!
Hope that helps!

I sent passport with application and then needed it back for a trip before PR was granted. I emailed CO and had my passport back the next day! This was from the Washington DC office.
