I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this or indeed whether it has been covered before, but I've just read that in October passports are going up to £66. So anybody who needs theirs renewing fairly soon it might be an idea to do it before October.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how far in advance you can renew your passport? I know to emigrate you have to have at least 2 years left on it but not sure when you can renew it and does it last for 10 years from renewal or would it then be say, 12 years?

The Passport Agency (http://www.passport.gov.uk/passport_renewing_when.asp) website says you get credit for time remaining up to nine months before your passport runs out. If you want to renew earlier than that you won't get any more than nine months' credit and you won't get any refund for the unused time.
