We will be booking out flight to NZ shortly. We have never taken a long haul and were just wondering what the jet lag feels like, how it affects you and how long it takes to recover.
Any tips ? :nice1

Hi
We came long haul and it took us about 3 days to get over the jet lag. We were walking the streets of Rotorua at 3 in the morning!!!!

We found that landing in NZ in at Midnight helped us, in way!
After a long flight all you want to do is go to bed anyway, so we went straight to the motel and bed, set the alarm and got up at 8.00am even though we were still shattered and went to bed earlyish 9.00pm for the first couple of nights. We seemed to adjust quite quickly like that.
Arriving back to the uk was bad cos it was 6.00am and we should have been up and about but needed to sleep, took about a week and a half to adjust back to the right time zone.
So my suggestion is to try and land at a time so you can hop off the plane and go to bed straight away! :)

With any travel where you land in a different time zone - what you need to do is try to adopt the local time straight away. If you arrive during the day - dog tired ... fight it and don't go to bed too early or you will pay for it!
Vividly remembering a game of 'I-spy' I had with the kids ... "Mummy I just want to go to sleep , pleeease!" :laugh

Hi there ,
the last few times I've been to NZ I had no jet lag at all - mind you the trips were not for pleasure - so arrived & was launched into the deep end (family stuff) When we holidayed in NZ it seemed to take 3 days - although I believe that its actually one day per time zone travelled through before we are 100 %
I geuss what I'm saying is - you get jet lag more if you have time :laugh I 'm betting we have it this time though - will let you know more soon - we travel in 20 days eeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkk !!!!

I also have to add and I don't know why, but apart from needing a few early nights we didn't suffer jet lag at all. :p :)

When we came in we had a 14hr stopover in Singapore at the Changi Hotel, arriving at 07:00am. Booked in, got our heads down for about 5hrs(could have slept more) and then took the free tour in. Took the connecting flight and arrived at 11:45am. Got our heads down at 23:30 and woke at 07:15. We felt that the stopover took the edge off it all, and so the result was no jetlag. Remembering that at 07:00(singapore) its 23:00(uk) so the need to sleep was there. Very hard to do if you only have a 2hr wait for the connecting flight.
You won't go far wrong by doing this, and in the process get to see a bit of Singapore.

Hi
We did long haul and didn't suffer any jet lag, I believe it worse going back to the UK ,it depends on which time zone you're flying through. Although suffered travel sickness last 14 hrs which I normally never do, due to too much travelling :wah
Would definately stop over next time, or take sleeping tabs.
Happy flying.
Sue :)
