 Hope someone can clear this up - we were always under the impression that MAF charged per box they inspected however one of the shipping companies we had out today said it was not per box but the amount of time spent???

Can anyone clarify this for us?

Reason we ask is Kev has a load of mowing equipment, one big machine two small hondas, stimmers & spray pack. Our thoughts were that this could be crated as 'one box' so the fees wouldn't be so much. We are expecting them to want to look at these items but now unsure of the charging system??

Hi Marcia.

When I asked what the fees would be
we were told that the rules have changed and they now charge for time spent not per box so they would have no idea until the crates had been inspected.
Luckily we arent taking any gardening stuff.

Hi Marcia, yes as I said on another post, it is charged on a time basis...so if you have NO stuff that MAF need to inspect (like I did)
you get charged $28.

And if you do you get charged a $50...I think its per half an hour, I am off riding this morning with her again so I will double check for you.

She said PACK ALL THINGS THAT YOU THINK WILL NEED AN INSPECTION IN THE SAME BOXES AND PUT THEM IN THE CONTAINER LAST............THAT WAY THEY ARE THE FIRST BOXES OUT AND THEREFORE THE MAF INSPECTOR TAKES LESS TIME FINDING THEM & OPENING THEM.

ok, will post what she says later.

Hi
I must say that our recent experiences were different to this. We received our container on 4th July and MAF quarantined 30+ boxes. We were charged per number of boxes they quarantined. Also the packers (actually unpackers at this end!) put the boxes that MAF wanted to see to one side of our garage as the MAF man couldn't come out until the 7th July.

As you will probably see from the different replys you get on this you are still none the wiser however the correct way it should be charged is on the amount of items inspected + a zone fee. Time should only come into it when travel time is charged for out of zone inspections where you also get a km rate. This is how it is charged back to the removal companies. If you are paying MAF direct then the rules may change. Also MAF are bringing in new changes later in the year and trying to put all on a hourly rate. Where the goods are placed in the container should not matter as the removal company will seperate the items on unloading.
