Found another reason today
It's been freezin and raining on and off all day and all of a sudden there's a ray of sunshine and you can make the beach in 2 mins flat. Have a wander, collect unusual driftwood and shells, take some great pics and run back, just as the rain starts again. :nice1 A real break away from the pc.
2nd reason
You call by the doc's at 5.00pm to make an appointment. The receptionist offers you an appointment the next morning at 8.30am :clap

Yup, love it, I wander past, go into make an appt (expecting to wait at least a few days), and get told to take a seat, they will be with you in 5 mins... (not always your own doc, but I am not fussed)

ok, I will add a little "what I like" other than the scenary, limitless places to visit with a little thought on the variety of the weather.....
I like that I went to work wrapped up with a thermal vest, jumper, cardi, tights/socks and boots, hat and scarf gloves and thick coat.....(Well I am walking to work...all 4mins that it take me to get around the corner, but I always feel the cold more than rob)
after half an hour I was walking around the yard collecting my timesheets from the guys...without the coat/scarf/gloves and hat......by smoko at 10 am I had to take another layer off! I spent the rest of the day feeling nice and toasty in my office, watching the sun shine outside, sat out and ate my lunch, then carried my coat etc in my arms while I enjoyed the sun shining down.
Not a bad day considering that it was supposed to get up to about 8/10 deg.
and its still winter!...cant wait to try out spring weather!!
Hopefully it will be a nice warm weekend, so I can enjoy my Hunt ball, stay at a farm in Winton without my thermals under the long dress....but You never know ...at least I wont get many strange looks! I bet they wouldn't bat an eye if I was walking around with pink wellys and an emerald/seagreen dress!
Another thing....asked my boss if I could borrow a spare pair of wellies for Rob at the weekend....NO PROBS help ur self!
Oh and the hilarious descriptions that the realtors use for describing houses that they are selling....priceless, I told one that the UK estate agents have to measure each room, give an exact description as they can be liable...he was dumbfounded! Measure rooms? some adds they even forget to mention how many rooms it has!
oh well...back to searching for that perfick house..... ;)

YES!
"cozy" = One of you will have to come out before there is room for the other to have a look
"finish the dream" = Who needs an oven or plumbing when there are so many great cafe's around?
"DIYer's dream" = You could put your sofa over that hole or better yet, play golf indoors!
:p
oops - this is a love thread... well, I love their creativity!!
besides we just went unconditional on a house we really love.
(the word they used for it was "charming")
:clap

Another thing the real estate agents say over here (when describing the size of the section) .... they give a measurement and then follow it by 'more or less'.
Three houses own the line an it still amuses me.

"More or less" is the legal wording used on the Certificate of Title, not just real estate agents' vagueness. :)

First NZ docs appt today and there are five chairs in the waiting room :laugh:laugh more like 55 in my UK GP's and a 2 week wait for an appointment with the doc no one else wants to see.
The physio apologised for not being able to see me until monday, that's monday of next week, not a monday in November!

first of all "hello Pleccy" yep I am still around but as we run the ski shop and its been a brilliant winter season we have been soooo busy I have only had time to skim the forum on odd occasions.
Reasons for liking Christchurch (rather than the whole of NZ of which I know little)
the fact that people seem to be able to be eccentric without being looked down on.
how clean and generally litterfree christchurch city generally is,
the friendliness of people generally, (not so much the take you into their homes sort but the helpfulness and smiliness of people in the street)
the mountains a couple of hours one way and the beach 10 mins the other.
the trust a lot of people still have., ie deals done on a handshake.
the views, the lakes, the sea, the sunsets and sunrises.
as someone else said the freedom to walk to the shp in jimjams and not be carted of in a white van. to be allowed to be yourself with out the very strong peer group pressure/conventions that hold the UK in sway.
and did I mention the views...................
just a brief note in defense of australia, I think it was avalon who commented about not liking Australia and it being expensive and making NZ look cheap. Have you seen how much more their wages are there than here. Pete and I have lived in both places and like them both.

We've lived in Australia too. Although it's a country that has its fair share of 'wonderful things', wild horses wouldn't drag me back there to live.

Yes I have.
I dont see why that means the exact same item needs to be 25% dearer. Especailly when said items are made in Australia and shipped to New Zealand.
I have also seen how much more people spend on thier mortgages over there. In fact how much more people spend over there full stop. Probably because things cost so much more than they should.
