Hi, just a quick question re the fees, do you have to pay fees when an account is open but not being used?
We have our house deposit in the ASB savings account (better rate) but dont use the current account.
We use the National bank for everyday use as they have a branch here in Havelock North whereas the ASB dont but if im getting charged for not using the current account im closing it

If its the streamline then you get charged a $3 a month as a standard charge.

so looks like you would get charged if the a/c was idle

Me again, have a look at Rabobank instead for your savings, its higher interest than the ASB Fastsaver..

No fees either...

Most banks will wave monthly and transaction fees if you have a mortgage or substantial savings with them.

:
You can close down the current account if you arent using it and just run the free savings account. And when you want to transfer the money - in order to avoid an fees that may be payable at the time (such as bankers drafts if its for a house deposit) - you cn juts ask your friendly personal relationship manager to do it for you and not charge you.
Always ask your manager to help you avoid the fees! Its been amazing what you can get round!

This is very true. If we want to move money around or 'tweak' it in any way, we just call our personal banker and he sees to it for us. We haven't actually been into the bank for ages - we do it all by phone. It IS possible to get alot of fees waved, and those that we do pay are worth it. Banks in NZ (well the branch of ANZ which we bank with) are FANTASTIC !!!!! Worth every cent !!!!

Ack - cant agree with that! :laugh Actually - now that I dont pay fees - it IS worth it. But no matter how long I live here - never going to aggree that charging is right. Banks make squillions without that.
And hey - i odnt even have to phone now - just send my manager an email. That bit I like. :laugh

Well I have to admit that now we have fees waved it's even more 'brill'. I guess that the rubbish service we got from various banks in the UK means that we're happy we've now got such a great service.
Being able to direct dial the person you want without going via Bombay is worth quids !!!!!

Should you ever want to go back to the UK - go to First Direct - all the staff seem to be based in leeds or scotland. Its really nice when we have to phone them from here, and we hear a northern accent. Is that weird? :laugh
