Well, yesterday I got the passports with the blue stickers back, meaning we're officially residents here instead of just work visa holders. That's the great news. On the other hand, when we walked out of the post office, we found out that our car had been nicked! Well, at least it wasn't my car, as I was using my mechanic's car, who's busy fixing my truck. Sometimes, life just makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time. I must say, though, that thieves work faster here in New Zealand than anywhere else I've lived, as that pick-up didn't take more than 5 minutes at most!

Sorry to hear about your car theft, Patrick. Have the police found it?
I think the time needed to nick a car in the UK is something like 4.3 seconds.
Congrats on the stickers though :raebanana:raebanana:raebanana

Argh, that sucks - I wonder if they'll find it (in one piece). How did the cops handle it?
A couple of cars were stolen from behind where Woz works (Riccarton area) over the last 2 weeks and one was found safe and sound and the other was found on its roof near Pines Beach :uhoh
After K&CS left us yesterday, down the Waimak Gorge, we went for a wander and found TWO cars that were stripped and wrecked and burnt out - they weren't there the previous day.

Bad news about the car but as you say, at least it wasn't yours. No consolation to the mechanic I know.

Bad luck mate but congrats on the stickers!! :raebanana:raebanana:raebanana
That reminds me of the time my dad was out in the works Land Rover and it broke down on Liverpool Dock Road - right across the goods railway line!! You can guess the result - it was wrecked by a goods train, and to say his boss was unhappy would be an understatement :laugh

The mechanic was really nice about it. No insurance, but he's holding out hope the police will find it somewhere. The police, though ... I kind of get the impression that the police in my neighborhood must be ones who like ticketing for speed rather than looking for the bad guys. Ah, well.
