We have been looking on the internet at a few different airlines to try and find the best deals and best stops on return flights from the UK into Christchurch. :exit
We have one problem......OH is on the tall side...6.3 feet...so the seat space/pitch is quite important to us.
Air New Zealand offers a seat pitch of 34 inches, but fly's direct to Auckland then on to Christchurch.
Singapore Air Lines offers a seat pitch of 32 inches, but stops at Singapore for 7 hours then fly's direct to Christchurch.
We were just wondering who in your opinion is the best air line to fly with?
How did you find the seat space...pitch?

I think it was Gumbygreeneye who flew from Heathrow to Auckland using the Business Class at Eva Air. I believe that one of the reasons that they chose this option was that he is over 6' too. £900 per person if I remember rightly, but of course, that was one way.
I have to say that I have no idea if they fly to Christchurch or not, but a look at their website will reveal all.
Sorry I'm not much help....it's just that I remebered Ggeye's post and thought it may be of interest.

Didn't someone post a link to a website that shows seating arrangements on airlines?? At least then you'd get some idea of where the best seats are. I, personally, would choose Singapore Airlines any day for the great service - and definately the better transit lounge. You can also prebook your seats online so you could pick and chose where you wanted to sit before you even got to the airport (do this early cos the 'popular' seats fill quickly). Good luck.

I am 5'11 and flew on Air NZ from LA to Auckland. I have done this flight pregnant and not pregnant. The legroom was better than most American airlines but I wasn't overly impressed. Though with that said the space under the seat in front was plentiful but where your knees are is not overwhelmingly impressive.

Yeah, I'm only 5'2, so leg room isn't an issue.
Good luck in your quest.

We have the same problem - I'm 6' 4" & have been trying to find an airline with decent legroom.
Air New Zealand offer their Pacific Premium Economy which gives you 38"-40" seat pitch with wider seats.
Singapore Air (who seem to be the chosen airline on the site & certainly with me) offer an Executive Economy Class which gives a seat pitch of 37" and wider seats.
I haven't looked at prices in any great depth because every time I try and get a quote the web sites don't seem to have the enhanced economy class on them :wah I have tried to gauge the cost by comparing economy with business with no real success - SA, for the two of us flying one way, on the 11/04/07 economy is £910.80, business is £4,404.80!!!!
OH, on the other hand, is only 5' so her feet will dangle over the edge of the chair.......

Heidi,
Just had another check online & Air New Zealand do allow you to book Pacific Premium Economy seats though the quote I've just got (£958.00 for 2 11.04.07) seems too close to the normal economy price fo rme to be reassured that thats what you get. ANZ allow you to reserve your seats :) online before you make your booking as well.

That's it - I knew some clever person would know what I was talking about (great feat seeing as I don't even know half the time :laugh )

I'm the short one of the family but the rest of the family are inclined to the tall side. one daughter at 6' with 34 inch legs and one husband at 6'3". its not a persons height that is the issue here as much as the leg length. But they have all managed these flights on economy lots of times. Our first option is too try and prebook a seat, then we usually get to the airport about 4 hours before a flight if possible to book in early, then have a meal and wander round the airport. The check in staff, if given time are usually sympathetic and will help if they can, but I do think that there should be a ban on short people sitting in the emergency exit seats, even if that means that I have to sit separate to the rest of the family.

The rest of the site is actually quite good and worth a quick trawl through.

Look at EVA

May give you some ideas as to an alternative. I've not used them before , (we go out on the 6th Sept) but 1 way adult for this class was £1032. each via Trailfinders. I will post at a later date and tell you all what I thought of the service.

Thanks for all the info..
Looked on seat guru and was not that impressed, it said the good seats were coloured in green...but the only green seats on the plane were in business class....and they were really expensive.
Finally choose to fly with Singapore Air Lines due to good reviews. We picked out an isle seat as that was all they had left......so everyone will have to fall over his legs....maybe it will make them realise they need a larger seat pitch :D

Try Emirates probably a bit more expensive, but we found them to have much more room, not sure the exact space though!

I am a shortie married to a tall one as well. OH is 6'3" and I am 5'2". My tall girlfriends were very upset w/ me. :laugh We usually fly Air NZ and we always try to check in early and request a bulkhead seat for him. Otherwise, when flights aren't too busy, you can wait until the flight takes off and usually find an empty row of seats. The only annoying thing is that now Air NZ has made the arms of the seats so they don't go up all the way, so you cant sleep!

My hubby is 6'5" - we always fly Air NZ since the leg-room is usually more generous than others. However, when flying we arrive hours early at the airport so we're the first in the queue & can get emergency exit seating - he usually has plenty of legroom for the flight & if they have an empty flight they usually re-seat us to a row each to ourselves.
