Mexican in NZ
10th August 2006, 10:44 AM
Hi there!
Well i have being accepted for PR last year and they gave me also a Returning visa stamp... that is great, i know, but the thing is that i needed to replace my passport in august and now i have both stamps in my old passport.
Do you reckon i will have trouble if i go out of NZ and then come back if i present both passports??
The thing is that i just make this passport for only a year cos in nz is so expensive and i am planing to apply for a 10 year passport when i am in mexico, and that is why i dont wanna send my new passport for the stamps to be there.
I hope u can help!
Thanks,
Adriana

I can't say there will be 'trouble', but the procedure you're supposed to follow is to transfer the visa to your new passport. This is a painless procedure - you send a request to the appropriate embassy with old and new passports and an express return mailer, and both old and new passports are returned to you.

It took less than two weeks to do this in the USA (same situation as you - only a year remaining on my USA passport so I wanted to renew it and transfer the visa to a new USA passport) and cost around NZ$100. Seems like a small price to pay for long term peace of mind and to hear 'No Worries' going through NZ customs....
