Hi all, I have had a plea from Jordon to clarify some issues regarding visitors visas...

Jordon is arriving in September :D ....now his Girlfriend Ema will have to stay in the UK (Expecting tears sulks and general moody 18 yr old when he arrives :no )

I have said that if they are still together by the time Rachel comes out in Dec/Jan that she can come over and stay for a bit...

...so here goes.

She is 18 in JUNE 07

so CAN she come over in January on a Visitors Visa (and how do you apply for one???)
Stay with us (her parents have gifted her £2000) but obviously not work :roll

CAN SHE THEN APPLY FOR AN EXTENSION for 3mths, AND THEN when she is 18 apply for a working holiday visa...which entitles her to work here for 2 yrs.

He is now starting to panic and wants this all organised before he flys out, and I need to give him a simple answer.

THANKS in advance...PLEASE I hope someone has had some experience in this!

Kat

Hi Kat

Hows things down south??

Your UK passport is stamped with a six month visitor visa when you come through on holiday. If she comes in Jan, by my reckoning she will be 18 before this runs out??? She will probably just need a return ticket in case they ask to see it.

Kat - found this on the immigration site online help section - as it says you can apply for a working holiday visa from many places in the world, including New Zealand, I can only assume that means those already in NZ needing a WHS can apply online - which would infer that you'd already be in NZ on a visa other than a WHS... ? Or am I reading it wrong...? http://immigration.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/immigration.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=97

Not sure how you'd get round the return ticket scenario - perhaps buy an open return valid for 2 yrs? Is there a 2 yr return option?

thx guys, glad its a simple process for the visitor bit, and the rest we can figure out when she gets here

I have had Rob trawling the NZIS (I got dizzy looking) :o website for the last 2 hours.

I think that it says that you can apply for a 2yr permit here, but can only work up to 12mths in that time. so yes she can apply when she gets here. I have requested that Rachel teaches Ema horse management skills before they fly ;) that will come in handy....won't it - along with cookery skills :laugh

Rachel has just rang, she has already started looking for flights....she didnt know about the news about the security issues...I hope to god they relax it before the boys fly...Cant see how 2 LCD monitors will fair in the baggage hold, and they have half of our stuff as well as their own!

My grandson has kept her up most of the night teething, but he sounded happy enough now :laugh oooh I remember it well....

well I better go look at what the airline websites are reccomending to do in the near future!

Kat...PS I'll PM you Debs
