My daughter aged 13 is about to start a paper round but has just been given some tax forms to complete. She will need an IRD Number obviously but as she has a student visa will she be allowed to work? She will only be working 4-6 hours a week and only earning $100 or so a month?
Any info anyone?
Thanks again

My understanding is that those on student visa's are not allowed to work until they are 16.

In any case, she will not be able to work unless it specifically says so on her visa.

Seems unfair, I know.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Anna. My husband and I are here on work visas but our 2 daughters have student visas and when I checked with NZIS before we came I was told categorically that they cannot work whilst on the student visas - my daughters are aged 15 and 17 and the only thing they are allowed to do here is study. (That is until we get PR which will hopefully be in a month or so!!)

it should say on the specific visa issued- i initially had a student visa and it stated that i could work up to 20 hours per week as long as i was participating in full time study at teachers college...

off2nz, I think the 17yearold will be able to study provided she gets permission from you and her school (assumingshe's in year 12/13). She will need to apply for a variance of conditions to her visa.

Anna, thank you, I guess you meant you think she will be able to work providing she gets permission? I did check this point by emailing our case officer and unfortunately was told categorically (and I did double check) that she cannot work! Never mind, we will have PR by the end of September.

From what I have gathered on this and other forums, though, some people's visas seem to differ from others for some reason.
