Can anyone tell me of their experience with Quantas? we've found some good deals to Welly but wanted to know of your experiences before we book. I'm having trouble finding baggage allowance, but have read that, at a push, I may be able to upgrade to 40kg ;)
Thanks

Hi Keith and Debbie
I haven't flown Qantas but my husband has a flight booked with them to Wellington this week from the US. He was much happier with the quality of their customer service, flexibility and willingness to answer questions. He's a pretty tough customer so they must be doing something right.
As for the flight, I'll let you know what he thinks of Qantas vs ANZ after he gets here.

Hi KD17
Have flown Qantas a lot. Last time put me off though. But it was a difficult time for me personally as I was going back to NZ because of a death in the family. The flight was chokka and I didn't have a choice of seats, which I wasn't worried about. Except that the c-w beside complained bitterly when I wanted to get up to stretch my legs (window seat).
But really the service is fine. You'll probably make a couple of hours refuelling stop in Bangkok and then change planes in Sydney. From Syd its about 3 hours.
I was going to give you the number of rental accommodation in Wgtn so here is the web addess www. quinovic.co.nz
Good luck. Did you decide to take a rain-check on driving from or flying from Akld?

Got a feeling there's something naughty in that one :p which I haven't heard before...

No not yet, just confusing myself with all the options ;)

No I am not sure what Qantas stands for but I do know it doesn't have a 'u' in it.
To take a boring guess it could be something like Queensland and Northern Territories Air Service - if somebody has a humerous version then please share.

I curiously asked e-bookers (who had the cheap quantas flights) about baggage allowance as I couldn't get a clear picture on this, he replied: -Thank you for choosing ebookers. The maximum baggage allowance is 64kgs if you travel via united states and if you travel via far east then the weight limit is 20kgs.
Now I "think" he's got a little confused in quoting for two people via USA (64kg) and one person via far east (20kg) but I will ask him to clarify, but thought you might be interested to know this.

I don't know about Qantas (it does stand for Queensland & Northern Territories Air Service, by the way) baggage limits, but on Air NZ via LA, the weight limit is 46 kg per person (2 bags each up to 23 kg) and 20 kg on other flights. Have you tried the Qantas website?

If you are flying AirNZ economy via the US then its 2 x 23kg which is 46kg. Business class is 64kg.

yup, you're right, 2 x 23 = 46, I've edited that. :o :o
(it's been one of those days...)
Qantas website (http://www.qantas.com.au/info/flying/beforeYouTravel/baggageChecked ) says:
Travel to/from USA,
US Territories, Tahiti, South America and Canada^
via the Pacific
First: 2 pieces
Total dimensions* of each piece must not exceed 158cm (62in)
Business/Economy: 2 pieces
Total dimensions* of the 2 pieces must not exceed 270cm (106in) with no 1 piece exceeding 158cm (62in)
32kg (70lb) per piece
All other International^
First: 40kg (88lb)
Business: 30kg (66lb)
Economy: 20kg (44lb)
Infants:+ 10kg (22lb)
so it looks like the Qantas baggage allowance is more than Air NZ.
