Just recovering from the car ordeal its ok by the way it was the break pads that had caught fire and has been repaired but am nervous of it. Then today estate agent rings to say that she has rang the people that made the offer on my house every day to get the name of their solicitor. Each day different excuse, got to speak to wife, will let you know tomorrow, etc. Last one is prices have come down in Devon. I accepted an offer which was very low and they are messing me about and accepted it for a quick sale and also said due to the low offer there would be no more negotiation. Anyway I've told them to stick it where the sun wont shine as I am not going to be messed about by time wasters. They said they wanted to be in before X.mas so cant be serious. Its been 8 days since the offer was made. So looks like I wont be going out for some time yet but on a bright note my daughter has announced that she is getting married on the 22nd Jan at least I will be around for that!

I feel for you Blue. People like that make my blood boil. It`s about time we adopted the Scottish rules on house sales, where a hand shake means a done deal.
Hang in there, it will come good for sure. Good news about the wedding. Our eldest son just dropped it on us that he is getting hitched in April next as well.

Hi Blue

Damn punters like that make me forget I'm a lady !!!!!!!! Why is it that the buyer thinks that just because there's a lull in the market they can call the shots and name a price. I for one would rather delay my departure for NZ than dance to their tune.

You have made the right decision by telling them to stuff it, folks keep telling us that sooner or later a proper buyer will come to view. I'm passing that message on to you. :hopeso :hopeso

Good news about your daughter, it'll be nice to be around for her big day. Hope she's feeling alot better too after her recent illness.

Take care.

Hi, blue,

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr, these home buyers, huh?? I'm so sorry you've been messed about, but it sounds like you've taken the most reasonable course of action. You're getting good at turning lemons into lemonade and handling it all so impressively!! Kudos to you, blue.

Our own home sale has hit a couple of minor bumps, but I'm glad times five we sold it ourselves instead of relying on agents. Whenever something has come up, we've been able to speak directly to the buyer and he to us, which has enabled us to work out the little hitches. We saved a bundle, too, and sold it for more than our asking price.

I'll bet the housing market picks up again right after the holidays and you'll have it sold again for a better price before you know it, blue -- hang in there!!

All the best, Rae

Hi Blue

Bad luck with this buyer, but I bet your next buyer won't be that far behind :hopeso :hopeso

And the good news is that at least you'll be here for your daughters wedding...can you imagine what it would have been like if you'd had a buyer/chain in line, with exchange and completion dates all fixed, and your daughter had turned round and said she was getting married on a day that was the day you were due to fly out to NZ or worse still a day where you would be hovering somewhere over Atlantic/LA or Europe/Asia etc... :eek :eek :no :no :no

Think the best thing would be to hold tight, see xmas and new year through, and of couse your Daughters wedding, and think about NZ next year!! :yes

HB and NZ can wait till then I'm sure!!! :hopeso :hopeso We'll put in a good word for you too (assuming we get there this year!!) so don't worry..you'll be there quicker than you care to imagine...that is if time flies as quickly as it does in our household!!!! :uhoh :uhoh

plus some extra time for your lovely dogs to stay at home too!!

Really hope things work out well for you, let us know how the house sale goes, and all the plans for your daughters wedding!! PM me if there's anything we can help with!!

Take care and all the best Dot

Oh Blue,

i really feel for you. Just when you think every thing is going right ZOING something jumps in to disrupt your plans.

Remember every cloud etc etc. :hopeso I would put on the market for a little more now. See what happens :hopeso

Now you can relax a little and help your daught organise her wedding. That is if you are into that kind of thing, I know if it was my daughter I would have a slight tendancy to take over

Anyway Chin up girl you're not one to let a little thing like idiot house buyers get you down. In my view you've had great week. I mean firemen ;) Weddings ;) What next :cheers

...and don't forget Dot, it's ONLY the damn media that is telling the population of perspective buyers that prices are dropping.
I'm glad we're in no rush to sell, there is NO WAY I will drop the price on my house, in fact, we've just changed agents and we've upped the price instead!
If the seller holds fast, then the real estate and banks won't be able to report on lower levels of business, and the damn media (the poisonous 4th estate) will have to write some other yarn to sell their zillion copies of BS everyday.

Think nationally, act locally......as the greenies would say! :nice1

..................................not that PB is the slightest bit 'anti establishment'

Only joking .......... after many lectures (discussions) he's made me see that what he's saying is true. All it needs is for the folks selling their houses to drop their prices, there would be a sudden rush of house sales, the media would report it and before you know it, the house you were forced to sell for £240k is now worth £255 ...... and it won't be us who's laughing all the way to the bank.

Anybody working in the media who could publish a rogue report for us and get this situation turned round?

Good luck to you all selling your houses - unfortunately time wasters will always be around whilst we have our current system of buying/selling. It needs to change and I believe it will within the next 10 years to a system more like Scotland perhaps.

As far as prices are concerned, well yes hey are coming down in certain areas here in the South East but possibly due to previous over pricing. Some people put their houses on the market speculativley a good 10%+ over what they are told they could achieve just to see if anyone bites, especially if they are not in a rush.
Also although prices are not necesarily dropping everywhere, houses are taking longer to sell which is often the first sign of some sort of a downturn.
Sometimes you just need to take a realistic view of your house price and recognise it is only worth what someone will pay for it - NOT always the same as what an agent tells you its worth!

Anyone trying to sell privately on the internet like Diny, also consider taking out an advert in your local paper, this can be a very cost effective way of reaching lots of people (and saves a bundle in dreaded agents fees!)

Finally remember the longer you hold out on your house the longer it will take you to get to NZ!!! :eek

Have a great day everyone!

Paul

Blue

We had the same problem, thought we were being messed about but it came through in the end. Get your estate agents to pin them down.

We took our house off the market when an offer came in but as soon as they started messing about the sold sign came off and we carried on with viewings. If they are serious that should get them moving

We should have the same system as Scotland it would stop all this.

I wish you luck

we will sell privately - lousy buyers tend to come thorugh crap agents. recommend listing on site called littlehousecompany.com (co.uk???). they are on big search engines etc. even if you buy ad space, make own web page etc it will still be cheaper, more satisfying and get better result. best know your bottom line, chill and be patient. we sold our last place privately - by accident - the agents were absolutley hopeless and caused much stress.

that said, we've been dreading 'the market' but after watching last nights 'touching the void' selling the house seems a walk in the park.

Oh Blue, just when things were looking up on the house front. You've done the right thing though. Agree with PB's comments, maybe it's some sort of scam making people believe that the house prices are going down.

Excellent news about your daugther, bet you're really chuffed :P

Hope to see you at the end of the month.

Babette :cheers

We are with The Little House Company. So far very impressed. You can write your own ad and put in your own pics. In fact, you control every aspect of putting it up for sale.

We've gone for the full package which cost us £125. For this your advert stays on the web for as long as you like, no time limit at all. Also gets put on a heap of other 'houses for sale' sites, such as Asserta, Homes & Property.co.uk, Property Finder.com, Fish4, Daily Mail homes section and dozens and dozens of other internet sites too.

Best bit is ..... it's a one off payment .... no estate agent fees !!!

We have also bought a for sale sign off the company. It's standard size and very eye catching. I won't go into the many services they offer, but if you're interested go to www.thelittlehousecompany.co.uk

Good idea about putting it in the local press too. Have already got that one covered ...... it goes in on Wednesday night.

I know that the longer the house takes to sell the longer we wait to go to NZ, but in the grand scale of things I'd rather get a good price (what it's worth) for the house, then book my flights.

Just wish it would all hurry up and happen.

Leslie I am not in a position unfortunetly to sell privately as I am on my own and might be risky.
Michelle i agree the scotish system should be used I think there are not many countries that have to go through this stupid system.
Hi Paul the couple are from Devon but prices in staffordshire have not dropped as yet.
Timbo hope your sons wedding goes ok.
Hi Rae hope everything goes smoothly for you over in the states please stay in touch as to your progress.
Hi lesley, thanks for your support.
The time wasters had the nerve to ring the estate agent again today to say that they are ready to go ahead but are offering another 5,000 less! Told the estate agent to tell them to go buy a tent its nice and cheap for them and if they have financial difficulties which is how it appears to be sensible and stop looking at things that they can not afford!
