Hello good people,

I work in the US for a global company that has a division in NZ, and I'm trying to decide when to approach my supervisor to have a talk about transferring. There's a possibility that I could switch to the NZ division before my fiance and I move to NZ (we're going to be here for a while until family illnesses and such are resolved).

From an EOI points standpoint, would it be beneficial for me if I could work for the NZ division while I'm still here in the States? (In other words, would NZIS consider remote employment for a NZ employer the same as in-country employment?) If nothing else, it seems like a good idea just because I could get accustomed to my new Kiwi compatriots, even if we're half a world away from each other.

Thanks for any advice you may have!

Dan

I don't know what the official line on this would be, but I would imagine that it would work in your favour as far as points go.

If you're working for an NZ company (and are actually being paid from that office and all your employee records are held at that office), then your actual physical location (albeit temporary) shouldn't have that much of an influence.

Maybe I'm wrong, I tend to take the over simplistic view at times and I can end up way off target.

Either way, it's nice to read your postings, welcome to the forum.
