Hi there
Can anyone recommend a good, not too expensive, plasterer in the Johnsonville/Newlands/north suburbs area of Wellington?
There are lots in the yellow pages, but very few return a phone call - guess business is just too good at the moment!
If anyone has some recommendations, would be muchly appreciated!! :D
Cheers

Hi Irishgirl,
If you just need to re-plaster a wall you really don’t need a plasterer :D they don’t really plaster here in NZ.
I can plaster, and I used to plaster in the UK, it’s a skill that takes some practice (DIY nut here). Here they have really funny gib boards that are bevelled at the edges, you screw the boards to the wall, stuff some plaster in the joint (plaster, its filler, the white stuff) stick some paper tape on it and then filler on top. Sand it down and re-fill and re-sand for a smooth finish.
Because the board edge has a bevel its really easy to get it flat, honestly I don’t understand why they don’t do this in the UK. If you put too much filler on, then you simply sand it back off
When I asked; the guys at mitre 10 explained exactly how to do it and even gave me a booklet showing how its done. I explained to them how I plastered in the UK and they thought that this was even stupider than those mad Ozi’s who put the boards on horizontally. :laugh
Here is a before and after shot, have a go, its really really easy!
Bob
PS cost under $150 to do the wall $20 a board, $50 for a giant bag of filler, lots left over
